ORDINANCE N0. 90-29
AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE LIFE SAFETY CODF, 198$
EDITION, AS PUBLISHED BY THE IR PR TECTI�IN
ASSOCIATION, INC. ; PROVIDING RULES AND REGULATIONS
APPLICABLE TO BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES TO MAXIMIZE
SAFETY FROM FIRE; PROVIDING FOR ADMINISTRATION;
PROVIDING FOR CLASSIFICATION OF OCCUPANCY AND HAZARD
OF CONTENTS ; PROVIDING FOR FIRE PROTECTION MEASURES ;
PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT;
PROVIDING A PENALTY OF AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $2,000
FOR EACH DAY OF VIOLATION OF ANY PROVISION HEREOF;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND REPEALING CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, ORDINANCE N0. 87-2.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
STATE OF TEXAS :
Section 1 . The 1988 Edition of the Life Safety Code,
including all appendices , as published by the National Fire
Protection Association, Inc. , a copy of which is attached
hereto and made a part hereof for all purposes , an authentic
copy of which has been filed with the City Secretary, is hereby
adopted.
Section 2. Penalty. Any person violating any provision of
this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and,
upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in an amount not to
exceed $2, 000. Each day of violation shall constitute a
separate offense.
Section 3. Appeals . Whenever the fire marshall shall
disapprove an application or when it is claimed that the
�rovisions of the Life Safety Code do not apply or that the
true intent and meaning of said Code have been misconstrued or
wrongly interpreted, the applicant may appeal from the decision
of the fire marshall to the Building Codes Board of Adjustments
and Appeals within thirty (30) days from the date of the
decision appealed.
Section 4. In the event any section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, provision, sentence, or part of
this Ordinance or the application of the same to any person or
circumstance shall for any reason be adjudged invalid or held
unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall
not affect, impair, or invalidate this Ordinance as a whole or
any part or provision hereof other than the part declared to be
invalid or unconstitutional ; and the City Council of the City
of Friendswood, Texas, declares that it would have passed each
and every part of the same notwithstanding the omission of any
such part thus declared to be invalid or unconstitutional, or
whether there be one or more parts.
Section 5. Repealer. City of Friendswood, Texas ,
Ordinance No. 87-2, passed and approved the 2nd day of I�Iar�h,
1987, and being an ordinance adopting the 1985 Edition of the
Life Safety Code, is hereby repealed.
PASSED and APPROVED on first reading this lSth day
of October , 1990.
PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED on second and final reading
this 5th day of November , 1990.
