HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 228-E ORDINANCE NUMBER .� t � � AN ORDTNANCE DECLARING CERTAIN FINDTNGS: DESIGNATING THE PLACEh1ENT QF A STOP SIGN AT A CERTAIN INTERSECTION: PROVTDTNG A PENALTY FOR VIOLATTON: PROVTDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE: AND DECLARTNG AN EME�GENCY. uIHEREAS the City Council finds that the safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Friendswood requires that a stop sign be placed at a certain intersection; and, WHEREAS the fo11owing designated intersection requires , on the basis of an engineering and traffic survey conducted by the City and Police Department, traffic contro1 to protect motorists from the danger of uncon- trolled intersections; and, WHEREAS the City Counci1 agrees that the need for traffic con- trol exists; and therefore, BE TT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, DULY ASSEMBLED: SECTION 1 . That the street intersection hereinafter set forth be, and they are hereby designated to have non-mechanical stop signs placed as follows: SE corner of South Shadowbend Avenue at its intersection with Quaker Drive and the �W corner of South Shadowbend Avenue at its intersection with Quaker Drive. SECTTON 2. It shall be unlawful for any person operating or in control of any motor vehicle or bicycle, to fail to bring such motor vehicle or bicycle to a complete stop at any stop sign withi� the city limits of Friends- wood. SECTION 3. Any person operating such motor vehicle or bicycle who fails to bring such motor vehicle or bicycle to a complete stop at any stop sign in the city limits of Friendswood shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in an amount not less than one dollar ($1 .00) nor more than two-hundred dollars ($200.00) . S�CTION 4. Tf any section, sentence, c1ause, phrase or word in this ordinance s�l be held invalid for any reason, such invalidit,y shall not reduce or affect the validity of the remaining sections or portions thereof, it being the intention of the City Council in adopting this ordinance to give full force and effec� to a11 provisions of this ordinance, independen� of those de- clared invalid. SECTION 5. The City Council deems it advisable that the rule re- quiring ordinances to be read on three separate and several days be suspended, and accordingly, the rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall be in effect upon its passage and approval .
