AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICLES
UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701D, VERNON'S TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES, UPON
THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION, UPON CERTAIN STREETS
AND HIGHWAYS, OR PARTS THEREOF, WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD� AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY OF A FINE
NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($20Q.00� FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS
ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS� Article 6701Dx Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, provides that when-
ever the governing body of the City shall determine upon the basis of an engineer-
ing and traffic investigation that any prima facie speed therein set forth is greater
or less than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist at any
intersection or other place or upon any part of a street or highway within the
City, taking into consideration the width and condition of the pavement and other
circumstances on such portion of said street or highway, as well as the usual traffic
thereon, said governing body may determine and declare a reasonab1e and safe prima
facie speed limit thereat or thereon by the passage of an ordinance, which shall
be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected at such
intersection or other place or part of the street or highway, now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, STATE OF TEXAS:
Section l . Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation hereto-
fore ma e�as� authorized by the provisions of Article 670�D� Vernon's Texas Civil
Statutes, the following prima facie speed limits hereafter indica�ted for vehic1es
are hereby determined and declared to be reasonab1e and safe; and such speed
limits are hereby fixed at the rate of speed indicated for vehicles traveling
upon the named streets and highways, or parts thereof, described as follows:
(a) Along FM 2351 from the west city limits of Friendswood to a point
48 feet west of Sunset Street, a distance of approximately
0.762 mile� 55 mi12s per hour;
(b) A1on� FM 2351 from a point 48 feet west of Sunset Street to the
east city limits of Friendswood, a distance of approximately
1 .490 rni�es� 40 miles per hour;
(c) Along FM 2351 from a point 106 feet west of Brigadoon Lane to a
point 264 feet east of Garden Drive, a distance of approximately
0.200 mile� a school speed zone, 20 miles per hour when so signed;
(d) Along FM 518 from the west city limits of Friendswood to a point
116 feet west of Brandywyne, a distance of approximately
0.360 mile, 55 mi�l�s per hour;
(e) Along FM 518 from a point 116 feet west of Brandywyne to a point
158 feet west of FM 2351 � a distance of approximately 0.564 mile,
45 miles per hour;
(f) Along FM 518 from a point 158 feet west of FM 2351 to a point
174 feet west of Echo Avenue, a distance of approximately
0.850 mile, 30 miles per hour;
(g} Along FM 518 from a point 174 feet west of Echo Avenue to a point
512 feet west of Winding Way, a distance of approximately 0.750
mile, 45 miles per hour;
(h) Along FM 518 from a point 512 feet west of Winding Way to the east
city limits of Friendswood, a distance of approximately 2.472 miles,
60 miles per hour;
(i ) Along FM 518 from a point 132 feet north of Shadowbend to a point
264 feet south of Spreading OaksS a distance of approximately
0.330 mile� a schoal zpeed zone, 20 miles per hour when so signed;
(j) Along FM 528 from the South City Limits at the Galveston-Brazoria
County Line to a point 512 feet south of Greenbriarg a distance of
approximate1y 3,353 mile, 60 miles per hour;
(k) Along �M 528 from a point 512 feet south of Greenbriar to a point
132 feet west of Sunset Drive, a distance of approximately 0.683 mile,
55 miles per hour;
(1 ) Along FM 528 from a hoint 132 feet west of Sunset Drive to a point
3Q6 feet east of `dindi�n -Wayy� a distance of approximately 0.564 mile,
45 mi1es per hour;
(m) Along FM 528 from a point 306 feet east of Winding Way to a point 1769
feet west of the east city limits of Friendswood at the Galveston-
Harris County Line, a distance of approximately 0.200 mile, 55 miles
per hour.
(n) Along FM 528 from a point 1769 feet west of the east city limits of
Friendswood to the east city limits of Friendswood at the Galveston-
Harris County Line, a distance of approximately 0.339 mile,
60 miles per hour.
Section 2. Any person violating any of �he provisions of this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be
fined in any sum not more than TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) .
