HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 112-E ' - SPEED ZONE ORDINANCE � � No. 112E AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICLES UlVDER TI� PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701D, VERNON'S 'I`EXAS CIVIL STATUTES� UPON 'I� �A,SIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION, UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, OR PARTS 'I�REOF, WITHIN 'I� CORPORATE LIMITS OF 'I'HE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED �200 FOR TI� VIOLA,TION OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, Article 6701D, Vernon's Texa�s Civil Statutes, provides that whenever the governing body of the City shall determine upon the basis of a:n engin- eering a,nd traffic investigation that any prima, facie speed therein set forth is greater or less than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist at any intersection or other place or upon any pa�rt of a street or highway within the City, taking into consideration the width a,nd condition of the pavement and other circumstances on such p�rtion of said street or highway, as well as the usual tra.ffic thereon, said governing body may determine and declare a rea�sonable and sa,fe prima facie speed limit thereat or thereon by the passage of an ordinance, which shall be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected at such intersection or other place or part of the street or highway� now therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY � CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS: Section l. Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation heretofore ma�de as authorized by the provisions of Article 6701D, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes� the following prima facie speed limits hereafter indicated for vehicles are hereby determined and declared to be reasonable and safe; and such speed limits axe hereby fixed at the rate of speed inc3ic�,ted for vehicles travel- ing upon the named streets and highways, or parts thereof, described as follows: (a) From Sunset to a point 26�+ feet ea,st of Woodlawn, a distance of a,pproximately 0.599 mile, 50 miles per hour; (b) From a point 26�+ feet east of Woodla�wn to a point 158�+ feet east of � 51.8, � distance of approximately 0.500 mile, 40 miles per hour; (c) From a point 158�1- feet east of � 518 to the east city limit, a dista�nce of approximately 0.�+30 mile, 50 miles per hour; (d) From a point 185 feet west of Stadium Road to a, point 26�+ feet ea�st of Gorden Street, a distance of approximately 0.200 mile, a school speed zone, 30 miles per hour when so signed. Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance sha11 be deemed guilt of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not more than Two Hundred Dollars (�200) .
