HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 107-E ` . . , . � . 107 SPEED ZONE ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHSD FOR VEHIC LES UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701D, VERNON'S TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES, UPON THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, OR PARTS THEREOF, WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, AS SET OUT IN THTS ORDI�tANCE; AND PROVTDING A PENALTY OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200,00 FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, Article 6701D, Vernon' s Texas Civil Statutes, provides that whenever the governing body of the City shall determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that any prima facie speed therein set forth is greater or less than is reasonabie or safe under the conditions found to exist at any intersection or other place or upon any part of a street or highway within the City, taking into consideration the width and condition of the pavement and other circumstances on such portion of said street or highway, as well as the usual traffic thereon, said governing body may determine and declare a reasonable and safe prima facie speed limit thereat or thereon by the passa�e of an ordinance, which shall be effective when appropriate signs givin� notice thereof are erected at such intersection or other place or part of the street or hi�hway, now therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS: Section 1. Upon the basis of an en�ineering and traffic investigation heretofore made as authorized by the provisions of Article 6701D, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, the fallowing prima facie speed limits hereafter indicated for vehicles are hereby determined and declared to be reasonable and safe; and such speed limits are hereby fixed at the rate of speed indicated for vehicles travel3n.� upon the named streets and highways, or parts thereof, described as follows : (a) Along FM 2351 from F'M 518 to a point 2g0 feet east of Woodlawn, a distance of approximately 0.240 mile, 40 miles per hour; (b) �1ong FM 2351 from a point 290 Feet east of Woodlawn to west city limit at Sunset Street, a distance of approximately 0.540 mile, 50 miles per hour; tc ) Along Ffi�I 2351 from a point 26� feet east of Garden Drive to a point 185 feet west of Stadium Road, a distance of approximately 0.200 mi1e, a school speed zone, 30 miles per hour when so signed. Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not more than Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00).
