AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED
FOR VEHICLES UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701D, VERNON' S
TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES, UPOWTHE BASIS OF AN ,ENGINEERING AND
TRAFFIC' INVESTIGATION, UPON• CERTAIN STREETS- AND HIGHWAYS, ,OR
PARTS THEREOF, WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200 FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS
ORDINANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Article 6701D, Vernon' s Texas Civil Statutes, provides
that whenever the governing body of the City, shall determine upon the
basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that any Prima facie
speed therein set forth is greater or less than is reasonable or safe
under the conditions found to exist at any intersection or other place
or upon any part of a street or highway within the City, taking into ,
consideration the width and condition of the pavement and other circum-
stances on such portion of said street or highway,,, as well as the usual .
traffic thereon, said governing body may determine and declare a reason-
able and safe prima facie speed limit thereat or thereon by the passage
of an ordinance, which shall be effective when appropriate signs giving
notice thereof are erected at such intersection or other plage or part
of the street or highway, now therefore, '
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS-
THAT AN EMERGENCY EXISTS REQUIRING THE ADOPTION OF THE -FOLLOWING ORDINANCE
IN ORDER TO INSURE THE SAFETY OF THE CITIZENS OF FRIENDSWOOD AND OTHER
PERSONS UTILIZING THE PUBLIC ROADS OF THE SAID CITY:
SECTION 1., Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investi-
gation heretoforeLmade as authgrized by 'the provisions of Article 6701D,
Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, the following prima facie speed limits
hereafter indicated for vehicles are hereby determined and declared to be
reasonable and safe; ' and such speed limits are, hereby 'fixed at- the rate
of speed indicated for, vehicles traveling upon the named streets and lhigh-
ways, or parts thereof, described as follows; 1
(a) Alongg• FM 518 from the Friendswood north city limit to a point
1,056 feet" south of Mary. Ann. Street, a distance of approximately
0.403 mile,, 55 miles per hour;
(b) Along• FM 518 from a point 1,056 feet south of Mary �Ann Street
to a point 53 feet north of FM 2351, a distance of approximately
0.230 mi"le;. 45 miles per- hour; '
(e ) Along FM 518 from a point 53 feet north of. FM 2351 to a point
53 feet'-south of Clearview Street, a distance of approximately
0.775 mile, 40 miles per hour;
(d) Along FM -518 from a point 53 feet south of Clearview Street
to Cowart Bayou, a distance of approximately 0,693 mile, I50
miles per hour;
(e.) Along FM 518 from Cowart Bayou to the Friendswood south city
limit, a distance of approximately 0.890 mile; 60 miles per hour;
("f) ',Along FM -528 from the Friendswood I west city limit to FM 5�18,. a.
distance- of approximately 0,269 mile, 45 miles per hour;
(g) ,. Along FM •528 from FM.518 to a point r1,584 feet east of FPJ, 518,
a distance of approximately 0.295 . mile, 50 miles per hour,;
(h) Along%.FM 528 from a point 1,584 feet east of FM 518 to a point
2,640, feet east of FM 518, a distance of approximately 0;Q00
mile, 55 miles per hour;
(i) Along FM'528 from a point 2,640 feet east of FM 518 'to the
, Friendswood east city> limit; .,a- distance of approximately 0.,339
mile, 60_ miles .per hour;

(J) Along FM 2351 from FM518 to a point 1,346 feet southwest of
FM 518, a distance of approximately 0.200 mile, 40 miles per
hour;
(k) Along FM 2351 from a point 1,346 feet southwest of FM 518 to
a point 1,003 feet southwest of Woodlawn, a distance of approxi-
mately 0.250 mile, 50 miles per hour;
(1) Along FM 2351 from a point 1, 003 feet southwest of Woodlawn to
the Friendswood southwest city limit, a distance of approxi-
mately 0.290 mile, 60 miles per hour.
SECTION 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction there-
of shall be fined in any sum not more than Two Hundred Dollars ( $200) .
