R99-34 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ORDINANCE NO. 87-1, PROHIBITING SMOKING IN BUILDINGS OWNED �,ND LEASED BY THE CITY; RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 89-24, WHICH DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS WITHIN BUILDINGS; AND RESOLVING TO PROHIBIT SMOKING IN ALL CITY BUILDINGS. * * * * * * * * * * * * * BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, STATS OF TEXAS: WHEREAS, in accordance with Ordinance No. 87-1, which was approved March 2, 1987, which provides it to be unlawful to be in possession of a burning tobacco product or to be smoking tobacco in a facility of the City except in areas specifically designated for sucr, purposes; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 89-24, which was approved on August 7, 1989 designating several buildings and locations within buildings as smoking areas; and WHEREAS, it is now deemed inappropriate to allow smoking in any city building; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the health of city employees and visitors to city facilities that there be a smoke-free environment in all city buildings; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that l. Resolution 89-24 designating certain area in City building is hereby rescinded in its entirety. 2 . In accordance with Ordinance No. 87-1, there are no designated smoking areas within any city buildings owned or leased by the City of Friendswood. VIOLATIONS OF THESE RULES WILL BE SUBJECT TO A PENALTY AS SET FORTH IN ORDINANCE NO 87-1. PASSED, APPROVED AND RESOLVED this lst day o November 19 9. Mayor Harold L.
