A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE FRIENDSWOOD
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO USE UNMARKED VEHICLES IN ORDER
TO FACILITATE POLICE UNDERCOVER WORK AND OTHER
OFFICIAL DUTIES OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

WHEREAS, Texas Transportation code, Section 721.005, provides the governing body
of a municipality may exempt automobiles used by the police department used in the
performance of official duties from the marking requirements of Section 721.004 of the Texas
Transportation Code; and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Friendswood desires to authorize the Police
Department to use unmarked vehicles as they may deem necessary in order to facilitate police
undercover work and other legitimate functions of the Police Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,TEXAS:
Section 1. That pursuant to the authority granted by the Texas Transportation Code,
Section 721.005, exemption is hereby made for the use of unmarked vehicles for the purpose of
performing official duties by the Friendswood Police Department.
Section 2. The Friendswood Police Chief of the City of Friendswood is hereby
authorized and directed to designate those vehicles to be unmarked pursuant to Section 721.005
of the Texas Transportation Code.
EFFECTIVE: January 1,2005 through December 31,2005.
PASSED,APPROVED AND RESOLVED this 3rd day of January 2005.
