A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE FRIENDSWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT'S
THIltD YEAR GRANT APPLICATION TO THE HOUSTON-GALVESTON
AREA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS FOR CONTINUATION OF THE
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM AT THE FRIENDSWOOD
JUNIOR AND HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES.

WHEREAS,the City of Friendswood Police Department is submitting a continuation application
to the Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments ("H-GAC")under the Governor's Plan for Safe

program at the Friendswood Junior and High School campuses; and
WHEREAS, the City Council understands that solutions to contemporary school problems
demand that the City of Friendswood and the Friendswood Independent School District continue this
partnership in exploring creative, new ways to address school safety concerns; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the proposed application for State and Federal
Assistance for said project, in the amount of$87,709.00, to be submitted to the Office of the Governor,
Criminal Justice Division, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program; now,therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
TEXAS:
Section l. That the City of Friendswood hereby approves and authorizes the Police
Department's submission of a continuation grant application for the School Resource Officer
Program to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, Safe and Drug Free Schools
and Communities Program.
Section 2. That the City Council hereby authorizes provision of the necessary
matching funds, in the amount of twenty percent (20%) of the total funds requested, as required
by the terms of the grant.
Section 3. That in the event of loss or misuse of such funds, the City shall reimburse
the Criminal Justice Division for the full amount of such lost or misused funds.
PASSED,APPROVED,AND RESOLVED this 18th day of March 2002.
