Budget Amendment Summary
Fiscal Year 2014— 2015
Budget Amendment VIII
March 2, 2015
1. Police Department Encrypted Communications and MDC Upgrades, $51,346.
Appropriate funds to cover the cost for communications services between
Friendswood and League City and to purchase mobile data computer systems.
The current communications line used by the Police department to communicate
with OSSI must now be encrypted at higher standards per FBI Criminal Justice
Information Systems (CJIS) security policy. The purchase of an additional security
firewall appliance with installation and configuration will cost $6,508.
Additionally, the purchase of 10 new mobile data computer systems (MDCs) and
an upgrade of four existing systems are required to comply with CJIS mandates.
These MDC units would have normally been replaced through the Vehicle
Replacement Program as the patrol car was replaced, however these units have
not come up for replacement yet. CJIS requirements must be met before the units
are available to be replaced. The cost for the 14 MDCs is $44,838. The funding
source for both projects will be undesignated general fund balance.
