HomeMy WebLinkAboutASAC Meeting Minutes 2025 09 18 ReqularMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE September 18th, 2025 THE FRIENDSWOOD ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MET IN A REGULAR MEETING ON THURSDAY, JUNE 26TH, 2025, IN THE TRAINING ROOM, LOCATED IN THE ANIMAL CONTROL BUILDING, 3000 WEST PARKWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: DR. DONALD STRAN CHAIRPERSON DR. DONNA COLEMAN VICE CHAIRPERSON CPT. DOUG LAUERSDORF COMMITTEE MEMBER ASHLEY HUYNH COMMITTEE MEMBER MARGARET PICKELL COMMITTEE MEMBER 1. CALL TO ORDER Dr. Stran called the meeting to order with a quorum present at 6:00 P.M.; Committee Member Dr. Donna Coleman was absent. 2. PUBLIC COMMENT No one signed up to speak. 3. MINUTES A. Consider approving the minutes of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee meeting held on June 26th, 2025. A motion was made by Committee Member Doug Lauersdorf and seconded by Committee Member Margaret Pickell to approve the minutes of the Animal Control Advisory Committee meeting held on June 26th, 2025. The vote was the following: Ayes: Committee Member Dr. Margaret Pickell, Committee Member Dr. Donald Stran, Committee Member Captain Doug Lauersdorf, and Committee Member Ashley Huynh Nays: None. The item passed unanimously. 4. REPORTS A. Receive and discuss an update regarding Animal Shelter operations. Committee Member Ashley Huynh provided an update in the following areas: A. Staff Training: ACO Guidry has stepped down from her role as Shelter Manager in favor of returning to her previous role as Animal Control Officer. The position has been filled by ACO Hernandez. A new ACO position has been approved by City Council for the fiscal year 2024-2026. The position is posted. B. Shelter Volunteer Projects and Training: Volunteer hours recorded reached a new record for July 2025, a total of 605 hours in a single month. This has been attributed to not only our normal day-to-day volunteers but a new partnership with the National Charity League. C. Marketing, outreach, and animal training: The staff attended the Houston Mega adoption event, hosted by Petco, and were able to adopt 26 animals in the span of two days. Friendswood Animal Shelter also received a donation of a new play yard from the Friendswood Rotary Club. The second annual Paws2Protect was hosted by the Animal Servies Team in Stevenson Park. Within a 2-hour time span, 240 vaccines, 75 microchips, and several hundred pounds of food were given out to the pets of our residents. Friendswood Animal Control has officially changed named to Friendswood Animal Services, new hours and days have been set as well. D. Health and Safety Procedures: No staff or volunteer injuries and no zoonotic outbreaks. State DSHS Quarantine inspection was passed, and the new certificate is on display in the shelter. 5. NEXT MEETING. A. Consider setting the date and time of the next Animal Shelter Advisory Committee meeting. The Committee agreed to hold another meeting on January 22nd, 2026. 6. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Committee Member Margaret Pickell and seconded by Committee Member Doug Lauersdorf to adjourn the meeting. The vote was the following: Ayes: Committee Member Margaret Pickell, Committee Member Dr. Donald Stran, Committee Member Captain Doug Lauersdorf, and Committee Member Ashley Huynh Nays: None.
