SEPTEMBER 19, 2023
THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MET IN A REGULAR
MEETING ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2023, AT 6PM, IN THE JOYCINA BAKER
CONFERENCE ROOM, LOCATED IN THE FRIENDSWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY, 416 SOUTH
FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS
PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:

JO BETH BRIZENDINE VICE CHAIR
BETTY STACY COMMITTEE MEMBER
BENETTE ROWLEY COMMITTEE MEMBER

COMMITTEE MEMBER NEETA JAMBHEKAR AND COMMITTEE MEMBER SHARON TAIT
WERE ABSENT FROM THE MEETING.
1. CALL TO ORDER
Diane called the meeting to order at 6pm.
2. PUBLIC COMMENT
There was no communication from the public.
3. MINUTES
A. Consider approving the minutes of the Library Advisory Board meeting held on July 18,
2023.
A motion was made by Jo Beth and Mark seconded to approve the minutes for the meeting on July 19,
2023.
4. REPORTS
A. Receive the Library Director's Report.
Matt presented the Director's Report detailing recent and future changes as well as upcoming programs
happening at the library. Some changes include swapping our EBSCO databases for Gale as well as
replacing our current ILS, SirsiDynix, with a new company, Polaris, in the next year. Some upcoming
events and programs include the Ekphrastic Poetry Anthology book launch on November 4th, ZakiCon in
January, monthly Scrabble Nights, and weekly Homeschooling Craft Nights. Jo Beth asked what the age
ranges were for the Homeschooling Craft Nights. Matt said that all ages are welcome. There was some
discussion about who would be teaching these craft nights to which Matt said that as of right now it is just
library staff. The library also hired a new library page, Carlo Mazziotta. Matt shared that we have a new
student for our Gale Excel High School program. We have had an anonymous donation for half of the
scholarship and we will be asking the Friends if they could cover the rest. Matt mentioned that he is
looking for two more quotes for a Needs Assessment for a potential library renovation/expansion. Matt

updated the board on the Friends of the Library memberships and Book Nook. Diane shared that the
Friends currently have a Paperback Book Sale set up in the main hallway. The Friends will also be having
a weekend Holiday Sale on Friday, December lst and Saturday, December 2nd.
B. Receive an update from Library Liaisons and Board Members.
Maddie mentioned that Diane will be honored at the upcoming Library Gala for all of her contributions to
the Friends of the Library and more.

The meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.
