THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MET IN A REGULAR
MEETING ON TUESDAY, MAY 16, 2023, AT 6PM, IN THE JOYCINA BAKER CONFERENCE
ROOM, LOCATED IN THE FRIENDSWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY, 416 SOUTH FRIENDSWOOD
DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT
CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:
DIANE FREEMAN CHAIR
JO BETH BRIZENDINE VICE CHAIR
BETTY STACY COMMITTEE MEMBER
BENETTE ROWLEY COMMITTEE MEMBER
BRETT STEPHEN COMMITTEE MEMBER
MADDIE SHORT COMMITTEE MEMBER
MARK CRAWFORD COMMITTEE MEMBER
COMMITTEE MEMBER NEETA JAMBHEKAR AND COMMITTEE MEMBER SHARON TAIT
WERE ABSENT FROM THE MEETING.
1. CALL TO ORDER
Diane called the meeting to order at 6pm. Steve Rockey introduced Trish Hanks, who will be taking
over for Steve Rockey as City Councilmember Liaison.
2. PUBLIC COMMENT
There was no communication from the public.
3. MINUTES
A. Consider approving the minutes of the Library Advisory Board meeting held on March 21,
2023.
A motion was made by Jo Beth and Betty seconded to approve the minutes for the meeting on March 21,
2023.
4. DISCUSSION
A. Discuss Request for Reconsideration of Library Material Policy and process.
Matt reminded the board about the Request for Reconsideration of Library Material Policy and the
board's involvement in the process.
5. REPORTS
A. Receive the Library Director's Report.
Matt reported on the library's recent programs and services including a Ceramics and Crafts show and the
Gale Excel Adult High School Scholarship Program. He also shared some upcoming events like the
Summer Reading Program and an upcoming Health Fair. The library was awarded Community Champion
by the board of the Bay Area Alliance for Children and Families. Matt shared that the library also just

purchased a 2023 Honda Odyssey Minivan for library outreach, thanks to the funds raised by the Friends
Library Gala.
B. Receive an update from Library Liaisons.
Diane shared that the next Friends book sale is this week. She mentioned that if you are a Friend of the
Library you will get a sneak peek at the books two hours before the sale officially starts.
Shawna shared that the new FISD libraries will hopefully be open on August 1st.
Steve mentioned that the program his sister did at the library recently on bugs was a success. He also
shared that the Historical Society has invited Kim Zrubek to be on the board and she has accepted.
6. ADJOURNMENT
Mark moved to adjourn, and Betty seconded. The meeting adjourned at 7pm.
