HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 2022-09-27 RegularMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MET IN A REGULAR MEETING ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2022, AT 6PM, IN THE JOYCINA BAKER CONFERENCE ROOM, LOCATED IN THE FRIENDSWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY, 416 SOUTH FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: DIANE FREEMAN CHAIR JOBETH BRIZENDINE VICE CHAIR NEETA JAMBHEKAR COMMITTEE MEMBER KATHY MOLINARO COMMITTEE MEMBER BENETTE ROWLEY COMMITTEE MEMBER MADELINE SHORT COMMITTEE MEMBER BETTY STACY COMMITTEE MEMBER BRETT STEPHEN COMMITTEE MEMBER SHARON TAIT COMMITTEE MEMBER 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Diane called the meeting to order with a quorum present at 6:06P.M. Present Members: Diane Freeman, Neeta Jambhekar, Bennett Rowley, Madeline Short, Betty Stacy, Brett Stephen, and Sharon Tait. Absent Members: JoBeth Brizendine and Kathy Molinaro. 2. PUBLIC COMMENT There was no communication from the public. 3. MINUTES A. Consider approving the minutes of the Library Board of Trustees held on July 19, 2022. A motion was made by Diane and seconded by Benette to approve the minutes of the Library Board of Trustees meeting held on July, 19, 2022. The minutes passed unanimously. Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes September, 27, 2022 Page 2 of 2 4. REPORTS A. Receive the Library Director’s Report. Matt presented the Director’s Report. Matt shared that the library is looking to remove the partitions in the middle of the library. The library is also working on rearranging the collection and moving towards mobile shelving. Matt mentioned that the library is making progress on becoming fine free. Matt will share more information on this at the next board meeting. The City Secretary, Lettie, will be coming to the next meeting to share information about the library board becoming an advisory board. At the next meeting Matt will be sharing the library long range plan. Matt welcomed Bethany Shelley to the library board as our Homeschool Liaison. Diane mentioned that the Book Nooks are doing well, usually bringing in about $300 a month. 5. DISCUSSIONS A. Receive the Town Hall Meeting results. Matt presented the results of the Town Hall Meeting. Benette suggested adding classes on library etiquette. Matt shared that in previous surveys the community is evenly divided between the views that the lib rary should be a community space and also views that the library should be a quiet space. There was discussion about childhood development and screen time. There was discussion about the shift from print to online and the more recent movement back to print. 6. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Maddie and seconded by Neeta to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 6:58PM.
