1.Call to Order
MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD THAT WAS HELD
ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2021, AT AT FRIENDSWOOD LIBRARY, 416 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE,
FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:

WAS ABSENT FROM THE MEETING.
Diane called the meeting to order at 6pm.
2.Communications from the Public
There was no communication from the public.
3.Minutes
A.Consider approving the minutes of the Library Board Meeting held on July 20, 2021.
Kathy moved to approve the minutes for the July 20, 2021 meeting. Brett seconded and the minutes were
approved.
4.Discussions
A.Receive and discuss the Library Director's Report.
Matt gave the Director’s Report. Matt discussed the ways that the library is adapting to the rise in COVID
cases by moving programming online. Karen mentioned the next book club book is the Gulf Coast Reads
book, House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. JoBeth asked if the library will be hosting any outdoor films
this year. Matt would like to do one again in November, possibly December.
Diane gave an update on the Friends of the Library. Matt shared more information on the Library
Ambassador Program initiated by Vice President of the Friends, Brenda Feaster.
Steve Rockey shared that the budget was approved at the last city council meeting which included the
library's new Digital Media Specialist position. Matt shared that Richard Haley will be promoted to this
position. Betty Stacy asked that staff take a current staff photo with names included.
Neeta asked if the library has experienced more problems with patrons. Matt shared that it has not been as
much of a problem recently.
Diane asked if the City has plans to loosen the rules regarding large meetings. Matt shared that the COVID
infection rates have to get below a 10% positivity rate first.
B.Discuss long-range planning survey questions.
Matt asked that the board come up with survey questions for a survey the library would like to send out in
early January that will help with the next Long Range Plan. Matt would like some questions from the board
members' perspective at the next meeting. Matt shared some of the findings from a survey conducted over
the last couple of weeks.
Diane asked for clarification on why programs are able to be hosted on Zoom while the board meeting
could not. Steve shared that it had to do with the board being a city-sponsored event.
Neeta was surprised by the eBook statistics. Karen mentioned that the community is coming back into the
library and checking out more physical books.
C.Discuss options for the recognition of Library Board members.
There was discussion about creating a perpetual plaque for library board members who have served for
long terms. There was also discussion on what to do for a memorial for Ted and Bryan. JoBeth offered to
do something for Ted on her own. Matt offered to get together with Diane to come up with a proposal about
what to do to honor years of service and memorials for those who have passed while serving on the board.
They will share what they decide at the next board meeting.
D.Receive and discuss and update regarding the 2022 Library Gala.
The Theming Committee and Logistics Committee for the Library Gala had a successful meeting last night.
They plan to get together again on the 18th of October. JoBeth mentioned that they added an element of
handing out copies of the book the theme is based on at the event as a takeaway prize.
Steve mentioned that Historween this year will include a play about the first murder in Friendswood as well
as the annual tour of the cemetery on October 30th.

Diane motioned to adjourn. Betty moved, Brett seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 5:59pm.
