Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX, STATE OF TEXAS CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD COUNTIES OF GALVESTON/HARRIS JANUARY 21, 2020 1. Call to Order Diane called to order at 6pm. ATTEND Benette Rowley, Bryan Corey, Diane Freeman, Betty Stacy, JoBeth Brizendine, Assistant Library Director Karen Hart, Library Director Matthew Riley, Mike Czarowitz, and Neeta Jambhekar. ABSENT Madeline Short, FISD Liaison Robert McCabe. City Council Liaison Steve Rockey, and Ted Thomas. 2. Communications from the Public There was not any communication from the public. 3. Approval of November 19, 2019 Minutes The minutes of November 19, 2019 were presented for review. Diane moved and Mike seconded that the November minutes stand as presented. There was no objection and the motion passed. 4. Director's Report Matthew gave an update on the recent and upcoming library activities in the Director's Report. He mentioned that the children’s department's 3rd annual Zaki Con anime convention was highly successful with 886 in attendance throughout the three days. He also mentioned upcoming programming including the Great Decisions discussion group, a concert sponsored by the Friends, the library’s first World Film Festival, as well as an author visit. Matthew also mentioned that the reference staff has been working on a new room scheduling system that is almost ready to go live. This system will make room reservation much smoother in the future. Matthew and Karen are still working on making it possible to pay off fines with a credit card. Diane reported how the Friends Book Nooks are doing so far this fiscal year. The Friends are starting to think about next years Gala. Matthew also mentioned that the Rotary Club will be having a room in the library dedicated to them on February 6th. 5. Review and Discuss Library Board Policy, Duties and Responsibilities Diane reviewed the responsibilities of Library Board members, noting that the Board is here to serve a purpose and that the Board is important to the library. Matthew mentioned that the Library Board could be the most helpful at City Council meetings when the library needs support for something in particular, such as the need for a new full time position of Digital Media Librarian. 6. Open Discussion There was discussion on changing the title of the proposed new full-time librarian position from "Digital Media Librarian" to something more specialized. Matthew and Karen took suggestions for changing the word "media" to something else. 7. Adjournment Mike moved and Bryan seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 6:55pm.
