MINUTES
MINUTES OF A FRIENDSWOOD REGULAR MEETING HELD AT 416 S. FRIENDSWOOD
DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS
1.Call to order
Diane called to order at 6pm.
ATTEND
Benette Rowley, Diane Freeman, Betty Stacy, JoBeth Brizendine, Assistant Library
Director Karen Hart, Madeline Short, Library Director Matthew Riley, Mike Czarowitz,
and Neeta Jambhekar.
ABSENT
Bryan Corey, FISD Liaison Robert McCabe. City Council Liaison Steve Rockey,
and Ted Thomas.
2.Communications from the Public
There was not any communication from the public.
3.Approval of September 23, 2019 Minutes
The minutes of September 23, 2019 were presented for review. Madeline moved
and Benette seconded that the September minutes stand as presented. There was
no objection and the motion passed.
4.Director's Report
Matthew gave an update on the recent and upcoming library activities in the
Director’s Report. Madeline updated the board on the Friends of the Library.
Madeline reported that the Friends have 20 new members. Madeline also reported
that the Book Nooks raised $355 in October. The Friends are no longer accepting
donations until after the December Book Sale. Diane updated the Board on how the
Book Nooks are going. Madeline reported that the Gala raised $5,087 for the library.
Matthew reported that Karen will be receiving the Director’s Award at the City
Christmas Dinner. Matthew also reported that Kim Zrubek, Reference Librarian,
received the Five Star Spirit Award this season.
5.Open Discussion:
A.Review and Discuss Fiscal Year Statistics
Matthew highlighted some statistics in the last year. Total circulation has seen no
change in percentage in the past year. Reference questions decreased by 5%. New
library card applications were down 13% in the last year. Class attendance went up
76%, program attendance went up 14%, computer users increased 10% as well.
EBSCO database use has increased 11%. Matthew also reported that the library’s
new mobile app is doing well, usage is up 41%. Overall online database usage went
up 12%.
B.Library Gala Recap and Discussion
Madeline reported that the Gala went very well. The silent auction did well and the
Friends were able to earn enough in silent auction and ticket sales to earn $5,087
over what they spent which the library will be using to purchase new shelving in the
Reference and Children's departments
C.Other Discussion
Neeta mentioned Brazoria County Library System’s automatic renewal for their items
before patrons are charged a fine. Matthew and Karen are going to look into this
more.
6.Next Regular Meeting Scheduled for January 21, 2020 at 6:00pm

Diane moved and JoBeth seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 6:56pm.
