ENDORSING WIDENING OF FM 518 BETWEEN FRIENDSWOOD AND
PEARLAND IF IT DOES NOT INCREASE POSSIBILITY OF FLOODING
TO CITIZENS OF FRIENDSWOOD.
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Friendswood has
been requested to support the City of Pearland in their
petition to the Texas Department of Highways and Public Trans-
portation for the widening of that section of F.M. 518 between
the two cities which is presently only two lanes ; and
WHEREAS the request is also made that this Council also
support the proposal that larger outlets be installed under
the highway along this area; and
WHEREAS , the Friendswood City Council feels that the
present traffic load on this thoroughfare justifies making it
a four-lane highway between the two cities ; and
WHEREAS , it is also the feeling of the Friendswood City
Council that more or larger outlets as proposed would not
have the effect of solving the flooding problems within the
City but would rather expose additional homes to a greater
flooding potential; now, therefore ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, STATE OF TEXAS :
THAT a request be made to the Texas Department of Highways
and Public Transportation that that portion of FM 518 lying
within the city limits of Friendswood and Pearland which is
now two-lane.; be widened to four lanes if such widening can be
accomplished without the possibility of increasing the rate-.of
flow of water from the westerly side of the roadway to the
easterly side in such a manner as would cause additional flooding
to those homes located east of the highway.
