Councilmember Measeles was absent from the meeting.
Mayor Whitaker called the meeting to order.
The (nvocation was given by Pastor Norman Fry from First Baptist Church.
Mayor Whitaker led the P)edge of Allegiance to the United States and fo the State of Texas.

Friendswood canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the General Election held on May 4,
2002, for the purpose of electing two {2) Councilmembers to the City Council of the Ci�ty of Friendswood
. for Position #2, Councilmember Jerry Ericsson and Positian #5, Councitmember Shannon Kimmel.
Seeonded by Councilmember Kitten Brizendine. Themotion was approved unanimously.
xxCouncilmember Taylor moved to approve Resolution Na R2002-29, A Resolution of the City of
Fri�ndswood canvassingthe returns and declaringthe results of a Special Election held on May4, 2002,
regarding a Propositian fo authorize the imposition of a one-half of one percent sales and use tax
pursuant to Section 4B of Article 5190.6, Texas Revised Civil Statutes(The Development Corporation Act
of 1979)—( 1,142 votes For and 1,361 votes Against.)
Seconded by Councilmember Kitten 8rizendine. The mofion was approved unanimously.
xXGouncilmernber Taylor moved to approve Resolution No. R2Q02-30, A Resolutian of the City of
�riendswood canvassingfhe returr�s and declaring�he results of a Special Election held on May4, 2002,
regarding sixteen (16) Propositions relating to the amendment of �the Home Ru{e Charter of the City.
(Propositions 9, I2, and 13 failed.)
Seconded by Councilmember Kitten Brizendine. The motion was approved unanimously.
Counci(member Kitten Brizendine thanked Councilmember Tayior for his service to the City af
Friendswood ard welcomed ne�a�lv-e!ected Shanr�on Kimmel �o the Ceuncil.
Councilmember Taylor congratulated CounciEmember Ericsson on his re-election to Position 2,
congratulated newly-electec( ,Shannon and wished him the best, stated he enjoyed serving as

Councilmerrrber, that it was a great [earning experience, it was a speedy 3years and this Councii is the
besf at being able to get along with each other an.d with staff. .
Mayor Whitaker welcomed Gouncilmember Ericssan back to serve another three years, and welcomed
newly-efected Shannon Kimmei and stated he is looking forward to warking with h,im.
Mayor Whitaker presented a plaque to Cauncilmember Tayfor in appreciation far his years ofi service to
the City of �riendswood and wished him the best of luck in his election campaign for State Legislature

Gouncilmember Kimme! thanked Gad for allowing him to serve, thanked his wife and family,thanked his
mother and dad, grandmother, friends, partners, and the voters for their support, and thanked the City,
a�d �n�y�r��,� ��,�,n�il f�r the o�ncartunity to serve= Councifinember Kimmel recognized Candidate Ken
Boggs, stated it was a great campaign, stated that Mr. Boggs is a great Christian man and wished him
the best and hoped to see him run in the future. Councilmember Kimmel thanked Larry Taylor and his
family for their support, wished him luck in his race for the legisfature, an,d offered him his suPport and
stated he is looking forward to working with the Mayor and Council, City Manager Ron Cox and City
Secretary Deloris McKenzie, stated he is a(so iookingforward to getting others involved, and would like to -
see younger uoters voting, and thanked everyone.
Mayor Whitaker presented a Certificate 6f Election to Councilmembers Ericsson and Kimme(.
Counci[member Ericsson thanked everyone for their vote of confidence and stated he is looking forward
to serving another three-year term.
� A reception was held immediately following the meeting.
A motion was made and approved to adjourn at 7:20 PM.
