COUNCILMEMBER TAYLOR REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE REGION H WATER BOARD MEETING, AND
REPORTED THAT 26 YEAR RESIDENT ANN HOFF, WIFE OF DR. SKY HOFF, PASSED AWAY AND
ANNOUNCED THERE WILL BE A MEMORIAL SERVICE AT FRIENDS CHURCH AT 6:00 PM TUESDAY,
JANUARY 9T" AND THAT FRIENDSWOOD HAS LOST A TRUE FRIEND.

MR. CHRIS PEDEN, CHA{R OF THE COMMUNITY APPEAftANCE BOARD, APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL
AND PRESENTED A CLOCK IN APPRECIATION TO OUTGOING MEMBER CHARLIE ORGAN FOR HIS MANY
YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE SOARD AND 70 THE CIT OF FRIENDSWOOD.
MR. KEVIN CANDEE, CHA1R OF THE COMMUNITY AND ECONOMiC DEVELOPMENT COMMiTTEE,
APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL AND PRESENTED A BRIEF UPDATE ON THE AC7IVITIES OF 7HE
COMMfTTEE, 1NTRODUCED MEMBERS AND LIAISONS OF THE COMMITTEE AND. ECONOMiC
QEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR KAREN CAPPS, AND REPORTED ON DEVELOPING AND ATTRACTING
COMMERCIAL BUSINESS, AND STATED THE LONG TERM GOAL iS TO DEVELOP ESTABLISHED
FACILITIES FOR NEW BUSINESS AND DEVELOP INCENTIVES FOR BUSINESSES TO LOCATE IN
FRIENDSWOOD. MR. CANDEE STATED THAT THE COMMITTEE NORMALLY MEETS THE FIRST
WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH IN THE SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM AT CITY HALL.
MR. BILL LANGDOC, 106 ROYAL COURT, APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL REGARDING AGENDA ITEM 9E, '
ORDINANCE T2001-04, GRANTING A SPECIFIC USE PERMIT FOR A MIXED-USE COMMERCIAI. SITE,
LOCATED AT 313 E. EDGEWOOD, AND STATED IF THE ORDINANCE IS APPROVED, HE WOULD ASK
THAT PLANNING AND ZONING RECOMMENDATIONS BE ENFORCED REGARDING THE SITE PLANS.
CITY MANAGER COX REPORTED THE MAINSTREET SURVEY FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS WILL BE HELD
JANUARY 12T"AND 17T"WITH DR. GUISETTE SALAZAR CONDUCTING THE MEETINGS. TO DATE, OVER
100 SURVEYS HAVE BEEN RETURNED. MR. COX ALSO REPORTED THAT TERRY BYRD, FIRE
MARSHAL/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR HAS SUBMITTED A GRANT APPLfCATION FOR
HURRICANE MITIGATION. THIS GRANT, IFAWARDED, WILL PROVIDE SUPPLIES FOR THE PROTECTION
OF WINDOWS AT CITY HALL, THE LIBRARY ANp THE ACTIVITY BUILDING.
COUNCILMEMBER ERICSSON S7ATED THAT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS THE CITY HAS BEEN
PROACTIVE WITH OBTAINING GRANTS FOR THE CITY AND APPRECIATES THE FIRE MARSHAL'S
EFFORTS.
MAYOR WHITAKER SECONDED THESE REMARKS AND ASKED THE CITY MANAGER TO LET THE STAFF
KNOW THAT HE APPRECIATES THEIR WORK IN OBTAINING THE GRANTS THAT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED
SY THE CITY.
