FRIENDSWOOD BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 4TH, 1992
Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the
above date at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.
In attendance were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Mel Measels, Joe
Tennison, Barbara Fawcett, Todd Yeager, Richard Prentice,
Jan Jordan, Sean Fitsgerald and Melinda Wasson.
April 23rd Minutes. The minutes were approved as printed.
Community Questionnaire. After much discussion, the
Committee devised a questionnaire which will be finalized by
Todd Yeager and mailed to Committee members. Joe will put
it in the Chamber newsletter and it will also be available
for cyclists to pick up at Bike Pro and at City Hall. In
addition, we will ask the Journal and Reporter News to put
it in their papers as a public service. Tony will prepare
labels so it can be mailed to Ramble participants.
Route Map. The Friendswood street map has been mounted at
Bike Pro and has the Major Thoroughfare Plan on the other
side. The streets proposed for improvements in the 1992
Street Improvement Program plus the Highway Department
projects have been marked in red. Blue lines are existing
bicycle routes.
The sidewalk project for the new elementary school from
Blackhawk to F. M. 518 on Friendswood Link was discussed.
Sidewalks from Hope Village to Imperial Drive in conjunction
with F.M. 2351 improvements were discussed.
Streets Scheduled for Repaving. Discussion took place on
the need to designate a bicycle route on Melody Lane. Mel
suggested the Commitee ride the proposed improvement routes
and see if any should be designated as bicycle routes. The
Committee had decided to ride the first Sunday of the month
at 2 : 00 p.m. leaving from Bike Pro.
Mel mentioned the City is trying to get West NASA Road One
widened from I-45 and Friendswood.
Drainage Grates on F.M. 2351. Some problem with lane width
and grates for bicyles over bridges on F.M. 2351 was
discussed. Melinda said she will check with the City
Engineer on this. Mel said he will check with John Garner
about the grate on the approach to Mary's Creek on F.M.
2351.

Other Discussion. Jan suggested the Committee ask for a
budget amendment in this year's budget to do the survey and
pay for postage. Also, some funds will be needed to do a
4th of July booth. $1, 000. 00 was suggested as a budget
figure. Mel will talk to John Gaynor about flyers for the
booth and Jan will contact Jon Branson about the Committee
having a booth.
Mel said Janie Honeycutt would like to resign due to other
committments. He said we need to put nominations for new
Committee members on the agenda for the next meeting so we
can send them to Council for action.
Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 9':15 p.m.
