MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 24TH, 1992
Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the
above date at 7:50 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.
In attendance were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Councilman Mel
Measels, Barbara Fawcett, Todd Yeager, Debbie Yeager and
Melinda Wasson.
August 27 Minutes. The minutes were approved as printed.
Report from Chair. Tony attended the bicycle dealers
meeting in Anaheim and looked at bicycle equipment for the
Police Department. He will call the L.A.W. and Melinda will
call the Texas Bicycle Coalition for information on grants.
The Highway Department is distributing posters on bicycling.
Tony, Joe and Richard have presented three Cub Scout safety
programs. On October 4th, Tony will have a safety program
for the Committee at the shop at 2: 00 p.m. Everyone should
be called to be reminded. He handed out literature we had
received. Joe and Richard also participated. One of the
cub scout packs was using helmets.
Bicycle Riders Survey. Todd said the letters to
participants have been mailed out. The most popular routes
on the returned surveys are F.M. 2351, F.M. 528 and F.M.
518. We will tally the total results and do news releases.
Bicycle Safety Presentation. Tony will work on getting a
presentation together for the Police Department. The
Committee will go over it at the next meeting. At the Cub
Scout meetings, he has usually covered basic handling,
signals, Etc. Before we make future presentations, we need
to find out what the scout leaders have already covered.
Sidewalks on Friendswood Link. We need to specify ramAs at
all streets with curbs. The Committee asked why the
sidewalks . stopped at the driveways. It was speculated maybe
they connect up with sidewalks into the new school property.
If there are curbs on the driveways, they need to show
ramps. Mel will talk to Jimmy. Ramps are needed at Apple
Blossom. The Committee thought the City should consider
moving some poles that are very close to the walkway. There
should be designated pedestrian crossing areas over the
streets. Some of the trees are extremely close to the
walkway. Mel asked for a set of highway standards. The
Committee asked if there should be more than one steet light
on each side of the bridge over Clear Creek. They thought
several more may be needed.
New Business. At the next meeting the status of the bicycle
safety presentation and an in-house Police Department
