HomeMy WebLinkAboutBicycle Committee Minutes 1993-04-22 Regular FRIENDSWOOD BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES APRIL 22ND, 1993 Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the above date at 7: 30 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Councilman Mel Measels, Todd Yeager, Joe Tennison, Sandy McHone and Melinda Wasson. February 4th Minutes. The minutes were approved as printed. Report from Chair. Tony reported a bicycle rodeo will take place Sunday at 2 : 00 p.m. at P.H. Green Elementary. We will hand out forms and do bicycle maintenance. New Committee Member. Mel moved the Committee accept Sandy McHone and Joe seconded the motion. Mel will tell City Council who will officially appoint her. Midnight Bicycle Ramble. Jon Branson came to the Committee to discuss the Bicycle Ramble April 24th. Eighty two people have signed up. They are expecting anywhere from 150 to 200. He showed the Committee the shirt. He needs volunteers to man the race route. The route will be the same at last year. Winding Way will be open. The Committee was concerned about the bridge on F.M. 2351. ! Jon said the Police Department will be escorting the riders over the bridge. He asked the volunteers to be there at 11:00. Registration will start at 10: 00. It will be at Freindswood High School in front of the school on the west side. Volunteers will be supplied with safety vests and night sticks. He suggested they bring flash light and leg lights. Arrows will be provided on the streets and night sticks will be placed at the corners. Police Bicycle Program. Tony showed the Committee the resources available to us to put together a local program. He said we could get representatives from the Houston Police Department who ride bicycles. We could have a workshop next month. Mel suggested a fund raiser and said we could donate a bicycle and an outfit for an officer. He will look into a clothing program. New Business from Committee Members. Tony said we could approach the Chamber of Commerce and offer to promote local businesses who help us participate in a fund raiser. Discussion took place on ordering bicycle safety literature for our safety programs. Todd said $1, 000 was budgeted this year for our expenses. Mel discussed that the right hand turn signal is changing and he also discussed the Texas Bicycle Coalition. t/- The next meeting is scheduled for the 27th of May. Adjournment.
