HomeMy WebLinkAboutBicycle Committee Minutes 1993-12-02 Regular FRIENDSWOOD BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 2ND, 1993 Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the above date at 7: 30 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Barbara Fawcett, Mel Measeles, Joe Tennison, Todd Yeager and Melinda Wasson. Sherie Warminski attended because of a newspaper notice advertising for a new committee member. October 28th Minutes. The minutes were approved as printed. Report from Chair. Chairman Le Cara reviewed the preliminary ranking of the HGAC Transportation Committee bikeway projects. Melinda Wasson suggested preparing a press release. Tony said it could be reviewed by the Committee by mail. Joe said we need to check the status of City ordinances regarding bicycling on sidewalks. When he worked on the hike and bike trail along Spreading Oaks in 1976, he thinks an ordinance addressed it. Mel will check with Jimmy Holland, with the Friendswood Police Department. Existing ordinances may need revision. Bicycle Street Compatibility Evaluation. The Committee reviewed the map prepared by the City Engineer and recommended the legend be changed to read as follows: [white] very low stress level children and casual riders [green] low stress level casual riders and school age children [blue] moderate stress level experienced cyclists [red] high stress level bicycle riding not recommended The new map should highlight schools and parks. Commitee Vacancy. The Committee voted to recommend Council appoint Sherie Warminski to fill the vacant position. Mel said he will take care of getting it on the Council agenda. The City Secretary needs to send her bylaws and an application form. Next Meeting. The next meeting was scheduled for January 27th at 7: 00 p.m. Tony felt we should discuss alternate membership or associate membership. Respectfully Submitted, Melinda Wasson Recording Secretary
