HomeMy WebLinkAboutBicycle Committee Minutes 1993-12-02 Regular FRIENDSWOOD BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 2ND, 1993
Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the
above date at 7: 30 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance
were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Barbara Fawcett, Mel Measeles,
Joe Tennison, Todd Yeager and Melinda Wasson. Sherie
Warminski attended because of a newspaper notice advertising
for a new committee member.
October 28th Minutes. The minutes were approved as printed.
Report from Chair. Chairman Le Cara reviewed the
preliminary ranking of the HGAC Transportation Committee
bikeway projects. Melinda Wasson suggested preparing a
press release. Tony said it could be reviewed by the
Committee by mail. Joe said we need to check the status of
City ordinances regarding bicycling on sidewalks. When he
worked on the hike and bike trail along Spreading Oaks in
1976, he thinks an ordinance addressed it. Mel will check
with Jimmy Holland, with the Friendswood Police Department.
Existing ordinances may need revision.
Bicycle Street Compatibility Evaluation.
The Committee reviewed the map prepared by the City Engineer
and recommended the legend be changed to read as follows:
[white] very low stress level children and
casual riders
[green] low stress level casual riders
and school age
children
[blue] moderate stress level experienced
cyclists
[red] high stress level bicycle riding
not recommended
The new map should highlight schools and parks.
Commitee Vacancy. The Committee voted to recommend Council
appoint Sherie Warminski to fill the vacant position. Mel
said he will take care of getting it on the Council agenda.
The City Secretary needs to send her bylaws and an
application form.
Next Meeting. The next meeting was scheduled for January
27th at 7: 00 p.m. Tony felt we should discuss alternate
membership or associate membership.
Respectfully Submitted,
Melinda Wasson
