MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 27, 1993
Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the
above date at 7: 30 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance
were Tony LeCara, Chairman, Barbara Fawcett, Mel Measeles,
Joe Tennison, Sandy McHone, Sherie Warminski, Bill Smith,
Todd Yeager and Melinda Wasson. Bill attended as an
interested citizen. Mel chaired the meeting until Tony
ariived.
December 2 Minutes. The minutes were approved as corrected.
Report from Chair. Tony said he had nothing new to report.
Status of ISTEA projects. Todd reported that Ron Cox said
to go ahead and send out the press release submitted by the
Committee for his review. Joe moved the Committee send out
the press release as submitted to Ron Cox and the motion
passed unanimously. Tony recommended using the media list
compiled by Melinda Wasson. She turned the labels over to
Todd for mailing. Tony suggested including a photograph of
the bicycle lanes on F.M. 528.
Discussion took place on when Friendswood might be funded.
Tony said he would try to give an annual report to Council
on February 21.
Urban/Suburban Bicycle Street Compatibility Evaluation. The
Engineering department is working on the proposed changes to
the map. Mel will ask Jon Branson to present the bikeway
element in the Master Parks plan to the Committee. Melinda
disucssed the bikeway concept presented- in the funding
application and said the Committee needs to understand the
Parks Plan before we deveop a comprehensive bikeway plan.
Other Committee members felt we need to include standards
and signage in our plan. Signs for bicyclists on F.M. 528
were discussed.
The design of the transition between F.M. 528 and F.M. 518
on the bicycle lanes was discussed. It was concluded the
problem with the transition may necessitate a
recommendation. Discussion took place on whether motorist
warning signs are needed. The Committee decided to all go
look at the intersection before the next meeting.
Next Meeting. The next meeting was scheduled for February
24 at 7: 00 p.m.
Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
