HomeMy WebLinkAboutBicycle Committee Minutes 1994-03-31 Regular FRIENDSWOOD BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES MARCH 31, 1994 Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the above date at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance were Mel Measeles, Joe Tennison, Sandi McHone, Sharie Warminski, and Todd Yeager. Visitors attending were Michael McNabb and Bruce Cunningham. Mel chaired the meeting. February 24 Minutes. The minutes were approved as written. Report from Chair. Tony was unable to attend. Mel read a letter from TxDOT Bicycle Coordinator, Bill Ezell regarding the consideration of bike-ways on state road projects and suggested that this letter could be useful in trying to get bike lanes incorporated into future projects. Mel reported that according to TxDOT, current funds may not permit them to place bicycle lanes on the section of Bay Area to be constructed from F.M. 528 in Friendswood to F.M. 518 in League City. Initially TxDOT suggested that the cities of Friendswood and League City fund the portion in their respective jurisdictions. Mel said that he had spoken with Bill Ezell and asked that they reconsider and offered some alternatives. Mr. Ezell said that TxDOT will investigate this further to see if they can accommodate bike lanes without additional funds from the City. ISTEA Projects. There is no word from the State or HGAC on whether or not either of our projects will be funded this year. A decision should be made by the end of April, possibly in time for the next meeting. Bruce Cunningham expressed strong support for the widening of Sunset for bike lanes. He stated that it is currently very dangerous for children as well as adults who cycle along that roadway. Street Compatibility Survey. All data compilation appears to be complete. Todd will check with the Engineering Dept. to see if they can give the committee a current copy of the Street Compatibility Map. Intersection of FM 518 and FM 528. Mel said that the Highway Department is investigating this intersection. They do not currently have any design standards for this type of intersection but are leaning towards merging the bike lane into the main traffic lane to get through the intersection. Todd will see if the Engineering Dept. can plot this intersection on a large scale so the committee can work on a better design. Next Committee Meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Todd Yeager Staff Committee Member BACMIN.023/TRY16/BAC
