ISTEA Projects. Howard Yeager spoke regarding the Hike and Bike trail from Arena Park through Stevenson Park. He is concerned that this project will increase traffic through and around Hidden Cove Condominiums and disturb the residents of what he and other residents feel is an otherwise quiet complex. He is also concerned about disturbing the natural setting of the area and the wildlife that reside there. Mr. Yeager expressed that this project is a waste of money that would benifit a small number of people. Mr. Yeager did support the Sunset bicycle lanes project. He further proposed that the money .for the Arena/Stevenson Park project be used to construct bicycle lanes to form a loop from Sunset along FM 2351 to Blackhawk, along Blackhawk from FM 2351 to FM 528, and along FM 528 from Blackhawk to Sunset. He stated that this would be a better use for funds that would benifit more people. Adopt A Highway Program. Joe received information from the Adopt A Highway _ Program and presented the terms and conditions to the committee. The terms and conditions for participation in the program were quite rigid and the committee opted not to make this commitment at this time. Bicycle Ramble. The Bicycle Ramble was discontinued by the Parks & Recreation Department. It was suggested that the Bicycle Advisory Committee could, if it so desired, take over and/or reorganize the event. Tony suggested the Committee put a proposal together for a reformatted ramble or other similar cycling event. Howard Yeager suggested that the Committee investigate the possibility of constructing a velodrome as a means of economic development to draw in people from outside the community. Helmet Use Program. No new information on the development of a helment use program. Street Sweeping. Barbara found that Pearland sold their street sweeper so it is not available to contracted in Friendswood. Joe found a new street sweeper for about $10,000 if the City decided to undertake this project on a regular basis itself. Alternate Committee Members. This item was tabled until the October meeting. The next meeting will be October 27, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Todd Yeager
