Report from Chair. Sherie and others on her Computer BBS called the Highway
Department regarding street sweeping. FM 518 and FM 528 are supposed to be
swept.
Centenial Bike Ride. T-Shirts design was discussed. The committee decided to
order 300 T-shirts for participants in the ride. Mel reported that $2,500 is
available to fund the event; the Pavilion is reserved; a sound system is
available; reflective vests will be available for people assisting with the ride;
2-way radios will be needed. Mike reported that the Methodist church is
interested in serving refreshments as a fund raiser in connection with the ride.
Joe moved to approve that the Methodist church be allowed to serve refreshments.
Sandi seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Mike proposed a route with alternatives for shorter distances. It was determined
that there will be a need for many orange traffic cones and officer assistance at
major road crossings. Mel will get a list of Home Owners Associations that are
on the route so they may be made aware of the event.
Entry cost was discussed and it was proposed that the entry fee should be $5 each
with a maximum per family of $15.
Sherie will design an entry form and print 1000. copies. She will also try to get
it published in the local paper.
Mel will check with the Boy Scouts to see if they can assist with directing the
ride. The Alvin Bike patrol is interested in the ride; they will be contacted
further to see in what capacity they would like to participate. Sherie will talk
with Tom (Bike Pro) about mobile support. Mel suggested that the Seniors might
be interested in providing sag support. Mel proposed that Parks & Recreation
collect the entry fees and distribute the T-shirts as well as Bike Pro. It was
also proposed that the first 250 entries be given a T-shirt.
Helmet Use Program. Mike proposed guide lines for receiving a "Ticket to Ride."
Joe proposed a ticket design and format. Information will be given to the local
media for publication, the program will start this summer.
Mel distributed copies of H.B. and S.B. regarding helmet use requirements. The
committee will continue to review this information to decide if it will be
supported as written or suggest changes and discuss at the next meeting.
Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted, Todd Yeager
