HomeMy WebLinkAboutBicycle Committee Minutes 1995-04-27 Regular Y • J v Friendswood Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes April 27, 1995 Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory Committee met on the above date at 7:10 p.m. in the City Hall. In attendance were Joe Tennison, Shari Warminski, Mel Measeles, Mike McNabb, Sandi McHone and Todd Yeager. March Minutes. The minutes were approved as written. Report from Chair. Sherie and others on her Computer BBS called the Highway Department regarding street sweeping. FM 518 and FM 528 are supposed to be swept. Centenial Bike Ride. T-Shirts design was discussed. The committee decided to order 300 T-shirts for participants in the ride. Mel reported that $2,500 is available to fund the event; the Pavilion is reserved; a sound system is available; reflective vests will be available for people assisting with the ride; 2-way radios will be needed. Mike reported that the Methodist church is interested in serving refreshments as a fund raiser in connection with the ride. Joe moved to approve that the Methodist church be allowed to serve refreshments. Sandi seconded the motion. All were in favor. Mike proposed a route with alternatives for shorter distances. It was determined that there will be a need for many orange traffic cones and officer assistance at major road crossings. Mel will get a list of Home Owners Associations that are on the route so they may be made aware of the event. Entry cost was discussed and it was proposed that the entry fee should be $5 each with a maximum per family of $15. Sherie will design an entry form and print 1000. copies. She will also try to get it published in the local paper. Mel will check with the Boy Scouts to see if they can assist with directing the ride. The Alvin Bike patrol is interested in the ride; they will be contacted further to see in what capacity they would like to participate. Sherie will talk with Tom (Bike Pro) about mobile support. Mel suggested that the Seniors might be interested in providing sag support. Mel proposed that Parks & Recreation collect the entry fees and distribute the T-shirts as well as Bike Pro. It was also proposed that the first 250 entries be given a T-shirt. Helmet Use Program. Mike proposed guide lines for receiving a "Ticket to Ride." Joe proposed a ticket design and format. Information will be given to the local media for publication, the program will start this summer. Mel distributed copies of H.B. and S.B. regarding helmet use requirements. The committee will continue to review this information to decide if it will be supported as written or suggest changes and discuss at the next meeting. Adjournment.
