July 25. 1996
1. Call to Order. The Bicycle Advisory committee met on the above date at
7:25 p.m. In attendance were Sherie Warminski, Mel Measles, Barb Fawcett, and Sidney
Allbriton. Choice Kinchen, an interested citizen, attended the meeting.
2. The minutes from previous meetings will be reviewed at the next meeting.
3. Report from Chair. Sherie will have a full report on-the June bike ride at the next meeting when
she has the final number of riders. She attended the last City Council meeting. The hike/bike trail
in the new park was discussed. The City Council is considering proposals to standardize policies
of city committees-attendance is a big issue. Council is also proposing that recommendations
and applications for new committee members-be=submitte&througtrtt a-City-Secretary's Office.
4.The last thing required for o.ur-request to designate Friendswood as.a"Bicycle Friendly"
community is a resolution from the City Council to promote bicycle friendliness.and to maintain the
things which keep Friendswood bicycle friendly. Mel moved to put a resolution.before Council
and Sidney seconded the motion. The motion passed.
5. June 29th= bike ride. Barbara will prepare a letter to City Council thanking them for sponsoring
the bike ride.The letter will also have a special attaboy for the police department. The committee
heard many compliments from bike riders about the outstanding police support during the ride.
Barbara moved to set June 28, 1997 as the date for next year's bike ride. Sidney seconded the
motion and it was passed. Mel suggested that the breakpoint should be on the bike route next
year, and Sidney suggested sending mail outs publicizing the 1997 ride to the bike riders from
the 1995 and 1996 rides.
The committee also discussed having smaller rides throughout the year to meet with other riders
in the community. Mel suggested sending flyers to bike riders and putting a notice in the papers
inviting riders to our next regular meeting to discuss the idea of starting a club or riding group.
Sidney will work up a press release.

7. Ticket to Ride program. Sidney moved to table the ticket to ride program until further study
could be done. The motion was seconded by Barbara and approved.
Choice Kinchen mentioned his concern about the lack of cleaning of bike lanes and the safety
hazard created by the amount of debris in the lanes. Mel suggested having a work committee
clean the lanes. Sidney also mentioned safety concerns created by trucks with loose cargos
which fall in the bike lanes.
