FIRE STATION

FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Phyllis Lee at
7: 10 p. m. The findings of the committees were as follows:
Grand Marshall- Phyllis reported progress was being made in
having Vice-President Bush as the Parade Marshall . Mayor Lowe is
assisting in this matter.
Public Relations- Kathy Benedetto has contacted the local
and surrounding area radio and television stations. She will re-
contact them in mid-May for specific announcements. She added
that if we want to be on Good Morning Houston , we must finalize
this announcement no later than mid-May.
Dignitary/Judges Gifts- Veronica Scoulious will be asked to
investigate possible gifts and report to the committee. Charles
Jordon moved that the judges gifts cost somewhere "around"
$15. 00. Huberta Mora seconded. There was no discussion. Motion
_ carried. A possible gift idea is monogrammed glasses.
Dedication/Program- Huberta had no report.
Park Entertainment- Charles Jordon reported no luck in
securing a marching band for the parade. Most school bands dis-
band for the summer. There is still a possibility that Houston
Symphony or part of a Shriner Unit will be able to perform. Park
entertainment is slow, also. There is a possibility of having
Mimes, Jugglers, and Clowns in the park. More later.
Promotional Items- Phyllis reported a source was found for
t-shirts and caps, like last year. The committee is compiling a
list of anticipated needs.
Trophies/Ribbons- Choice asked how many trophies and ribbons
were needed. It was determined that 24 trophies would be needed"
Donna asked Choice if he would Like a different assignment be-
cause she had a surprise announcement and thought he might like
to help with it. Choice declined.
At this time , a letter from Dave Zwingman was read , by
Donna, concerning the parade entry forms and line-up. It was
determined to give 1 ) . a ribbon to the Best Individual Walking
and to give trophies to the Best Marching or Musical Group and
Best Walking Group , 2) . to add "/or" to the statement Trophies
and cash awards will be awarded for 1st , 2nd , and 3rd places for
all Non-Commercial Entries; to read Trophies and/or cash awards

will be awarded for . . . . . . . . . . Entries. 3) . to delete column
-- ''Type of Entry" on the judging sheets because each entry is |
determined by catagory number. The committee approved all of.
these recommended changes.
Logo- Phyllis presented a design from the artist. The gen-
eral concensus was to return to the artist and ask him to try
another design. The committee wanted the artist to know that it
felt it was :
Too Busy
To emphasize Friendswood , not the United States
and/or Texas.
To remove the top two flags.
"4" stands but too much.
Most importantly, to simplify the design.
Stage- Bennie Baker showed a sketch of the park stage. It
will be two flatbeds together with a railing around it. Access
will be from the rear by steps. There will be a tent covering
flanked by the beginning and final floats of the parade. The
beginning float will be a mock-up of the ''Come and Take It''
Cannon with a sign reading " It all started with a cannon. " The
final float will be a mock-up of the San Jacinto Monument with a
sign reading "And ended at San Jacinto" . Donna asked Bennie if
the committee would like a replica of the "Come and Take It''
_ Cannon because it had been offered as an entry in our parade, by
Dr. Patrick Wagner of Shiner. The committee agreed to accept the
offer and use it as the beginning float" Hubertav Choice , and
Bennie will contact the High School concerning the building of
the San Jacinto Monument float and to do the signs for the first
and last floats.
Booth Rental /Volunteer Support Groups- The committee will.
, ask Lynn Chatham to coordinate this activity.
Barbara Matson will be contacted to help the committee
find a photgrapher. The Community Education photography instuc
tor was suggested.
Flyers/Programs- The "Early Bird" Flyer announcing the theme
and the Sesquicentennial items will be mailed out February 1 "
The program was discussed and Phyllis suggested that a
four-fold program be used to allow more space and to use one side
as a mailing label . The incorporated mailing space would allow
for mailing labels to be adhered directly to the program and
eliminate additional cost of envelopes. This program will be
sent to all Friendswood residents. The commmittee liked the idea
and cost will be presented at a later meeting.

There was no other business. Meeting was adjourned"
