AT FRIENDSWOOD CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 910 S. MAYOR PRO TEM KIM BRIZENDINE CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER. CITY MANAGER RON COX GAVE THE INVOCATION. MAYOR PRO TEM KIM BRIZENDINE LED THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE STATE OF TEXAS AND TO THE UNITED STATES MAYOR PRO TEM KIM BRIZENDINE PROCLAIMED JULY 24, 2000 AS "PETE GARCIA DAY" IN THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD. MR. GARCIA, OWNER MANAGER OF THE SONIC DRIVE-IN WAS PRESENTED A PROCLAMATION FOR HIS COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND YEARS OF GENERAL SUPPORT TO MANY COMMUNITY PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE BLUE SANTA PROJECT AND D.A.R.E PROGRAM AND WAS S ALSO PRESENTED A PLAQUE FROM FRIENDSWOOD POLICE OFFICER JUDY PREE FOR HIS SUPPORT � OF THE D.A.R.E. PROGRAM. :) � MAYOR PRO TEM KIM BRIZENDINE PROCLAIMED JULY 24, 2000 "HABITAT FOR HUMANITY DAY"AND PRESENTED PROCLAMATIONS TO JUNE WYATT AND SOLUTIA, BLAISE GUZZETTA AND GUZZETTA BENEFITS SERVICES, LUCY PANNELL AND THE TEXAS•NEW MEXICO POWER COMPANY, JOHN AND KAREN GANNON, AND DAVI� EVERETT AND THE FRIENDSWOOD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FOR THEIR GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. MS. MARGE FEISTER, REPRESENTING HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL AND EXPRESSED APPRECIATION ON BEHALF OF ALL OF THOSE RECOGNIZED. CITY MANAGER COX PRESENTED THE FIVE STAR AWARD TO POLICE DEPARTMENT DETECTIVE KEITH STILL FOR THE SECOND QUARTER. DETECTIVE STILL WAS NOMINATED FOR HIS DEDICATION, HIS GENTLE PERSONALITY, DEMONSTRATING AN UTMOST PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE IN DEALING WITH THE PUBLIC AND THE EXAMPLE HE SETS AS A ROLE MODEL FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CANCELLED. COUNCILMEMBER MEASELES HAD NOTHING TO REPORT. s 7/24/00 1639 COUNCILMEMBER TAYLOR REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE HARRIS COUNTY MAYOR AND COUNCILS' MEETING WITH COUNCILMEMBER MANISON DURING WHICH MUNICIPAL COURTS WERE DISCUSSED. COUNCILMEMBER MANISON POINTED OUT TODAY IS THE BIG ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEVASTATING FLOOD THAT OCCURRED IN FRIENDSWOOD 22 YEARS AGO. COUNCILMEMBER ERICSSON REPORTED ON ATTENDING HOUSTON/GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL(H� GAC) MEETING DURING WHICH COLLECTIVE PURCHASING AND AIR QUALITY WERE DISCUSSED. COUNCILMEMBER KITTEN BRIZENDINE HAD NOTHING TO REPORT. COUNCILMEMBER KIM BRIZENDINE APOLOGIZED TO COUNCILMEMBERS ERICSSON AND TAYLOR FOR THE MISUSED WORD THAT HE STATED AT THE LAST MEETING. CITY MANAGER COX REPORTED ON THE STAGE ONE-WATER RATIONING DUE TO THE INCREASED WATER USAGE AS A RESULT OF THE HOT DRY WEATHER. STAGE ONE IS VOLUNTARY CONSERVATION WITH ALTERNATE DAYS WATERING FOR EVEN AND ODD NUMBER RESIDENCES. MR. COX ALSO REPORTED THAT THE EXTENDED OFFICE HOURS FOR ALL OFFICES, EXCEPT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, LIBRARY AND SENIOR PROGRAM, WILL BE FROM 7:30 AM TO 5:30 PM MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, AND 8AM TO 5PM ON FRIDAYS. EMPLOYEES 1N THE AFFECTED DEPARTMENTS WILL WORK THEIR 80 HOURS IN NINE WORKING DAYS, AND ON THE TENTH, THEY WILL BE OFF. THEY WILL WORK NINE HOURS MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, AND EIGH7 HOURS EVERY OTHER FRIDAY. EVERY OTHER FRIDAY THE EMPLOYEE WILL BE OFF. THIS WILL GIVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CfTIZEfVS TO COME BY CITY OFFICES BEFORE OR AFTER THEIR NORMAL WORKING HOURS, AND GIVES EMPLOYEES LONG WEEKENDS TO ENJOY THEIR FREE TIME. *���COUNCILMEMBER M�ASELES MOVED TO APPROVE AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN FIRSTCALL, GALVESTON COUNTY'S EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NETWORK. THE PROJECT IS 45 PERCENT COMPLETE. RETAINAGE 15 10 PERCENT. SECOND AND THIRD PAYMENTS IN THE AMOUNT OF$6,025 TO STORK SOUTHWESTERN LABORATORIES FOR MATERIAL TESTING AT CENTENNlAL PARK. 2. GROUND STORAGE TANK REHABILITATION WITH THE FOURTH PAYMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,254.50 TO WAYNE SMITH & ASSOCIATES FOR PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING SERVICES.
