MAYOR WHITAKER LED THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGfANCE 1"Q THE STATE OF TEXAS AND TO THE UNITED STATES. � MAYOR WHITAKER ANNOUNCED THAT LOVELY COUNCILMEMBER KITTEN HA.lECATE BECAME ENGAGED LAST WEEK TO JAMES BRIZENDINE, BROTHER OF COUNCILMEMBER BRIZENDINE. WITH CITIZENS. COUNCILMEMBER TAYLOR REPORTED THAT HE AND MAYOR WHITAKER ATTENDED THE FUND RAISER LAST SATURDAY NIGHT FOR THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROGRAM AND STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EXCELLENT TURNOUT, COUNCILMEMBER BRIZENDINE REPORTED THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FUNDRAISER RAISED OVER $100,000, ENOUGH TO BUILD 3 HOMES IN ALVIN, THEY ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO DO THE CONSTRUCTION, THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RECRUITING FOR MANPOWER, AND THEY WERE GIVEN 6 ADQ1710NAL ACRES, ENOUGH FOR 40 HOUSES. COUNCILMEMBER BRIZENDINE ALSO GAVE A REPORT FROM THE BRIO SITE 7ASK FORCE REGARDIMG THE FINAL REMED1A7fON PLAN. COUNCILMEMBER MANISON REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE HARRIS COUNTY MAYORS AfVD COUNCIL MEETING HELD IN HUMBLE DUR{NG WNICH COUNCILMEMBER OF THE CI7Y OF HOUSTON, CARROL� ROBINSON, SPOKE ON TRUCK TRAFFIC IN HOUSTON, AT7ENDED THE REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS P/IEETING, THE C�EAR LAKE AREA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATI�N MEETING 4/3/00 � �{ � 1 � HELD AT ELLINGTON FIELD LAST WEEK, AND ATTENDED THE YOUTH SPORTS QAY OPENING , CEREMONIES LAST SATURDAY. COUNCILMEMBER ERICSSON REPORTED ON ATTENDING A NUMBER OF THE SAME MEETINGS, AND REMINDED EVERYONE OF EARLY VOTING FOR THE RUN�OFF ELECTION FOR THE PRIMARY WILL BE GOING ON FROM 7 AM UNTIL 7 PM AI.L WEEK. COUNCILMEMBER HAJECATE REPORTED QN ATTENDING THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FUNDRAISER, THE YOUTH SPORTS DAY OPENING CEREMONIES, AND REMINDED �VERYONE OF THE 6T" ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT IN STEVENSON PARK. MAYOR WHITAKER REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING DURING WHICH LANDSCAPING WAS DISCUSSED AND DR. JOHN HEARD WAS NAMED CHAIR OF THE BOARD, REPORTED HE, CITY MANAGER COX, AND DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MIKE HODGE ATTENDED THE COUNTY ROADWAY MEETING LAST WEEK AT THE GALVESTON COUNTY COUR7 � HOUSE, STATED FRIENDSWOOD HAS A NUMBER OF ROADS TO SUBMIT FOR CONSIDERATION, AND ATTENDED THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY DREAMBUILDERS BALL WHICH WAS A GREAT SUCCESS. MAYOR WHITAKER RECOGNIZED AND PRESENTED CERTIFICATES TO THE FRIENDSWOOD HIGH SCHOOL 1999•2000 ACADEMIC DECATHL�N TEAM ON WINNING THE 2000 TEXAS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND PRAISED THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR WINNING THIS AWARD EIGHT YEARS IN A ROW AND STATED THAT THI5 SPECTACULAR ACHIEVEMENT OF THE STUDENTS BRINGS ACCLAIM TO THE CITY. MS. MARJORIE HOFFMAN APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL REGARDING BEING APPOINTED BY THE COUNTY OF GALVESTON TO PROMOTE APRIL AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH AND STATED THAT IN GALVESTON COUNTY THE AVERAGE OF CHILDREN THAT ARE ABUSED IS 200 A MONTH AND THIS YEAR'S PROGRAM IS "Y2K 2000" THAT STANDS FOR YES, 2 KIDS DO STOP ABUSE. DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES JON BRANSON GAVE A REPORT REGARDING THE CENSUS 2000 . COMMITTEE AND STATED THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED THE CENSUS FORM, ElTHER THE SHORT FORM WITH 15 QUESTIONS, OR THE LONG FORM WITH 45 QUESTION. DIRECTOR BRANSON STATED THAT ALL INFORMATI4N IS CONFIDENTIAL AND THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO RETURN THE FORM IN THAT THE NUMBERS WILL HELP FUND FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOGAL PROJECTS AND THfS MEANS DOLLARS TO THE CITY. ISSUES, DOG BITE REPORTS, POOR RECORD KEEPING, ASKED } COUNCIL'S SUPPORT AND NOT PUT ANYMORE CHILDREN AT RISK, ASKED COUNCIL TO STEP UP TO ' 7HE PLATE AND SUPPORT FRIENDSWOOD CITIZENS FOR PROPER ANIMAL CONTROL. MR.WI�LIAM SCHEXNAYDER, 334 GLENEAGLES DRIVE, APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL TO EXPRESS HIS CONCERNS REGARDING A DANGEROUS SPOT ALONG THE CURVE BETWEEN SHADWELL AND WHISPERING P1NES ON FM 518, AND STATED THE CENTERLINE STR1P ON FM 51$AT THIS LOCATION NEEDS TO BE PAINTED AND REQUESTED LITTLE SPEED BUMPS PLACED ON THE STRIPE TO HELP DRlVERS KEEP FROM DRIFTING OVER. FOR CONSTRUCTION SERVICES, BID N0. 99�16. THE PROJECT IS 63 PERCENT COMPLETE. RETAINAGE IS FIVE PERCENT. 4. COWARDS CREEK SANITARY SEWER REPLACE WITH THE THIRD PAYMEN7 OF $21,344,00 TO CLAUNCH & MILLER, INC. FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR THE DESIGN OF 24" REPLACEMENT LINE ALONG COWARDS CREEK FROM FM 518 TO COWARDS CREEK DRIVE. THE PROJECT IS 39 PERCENT COMPLE7E. 5.
