COUNCII�MEMBER MEASELES REPORTED ON ATTENDING SOME OF THE SAME MEETINGS SUCH AS THE
G.C.M. & C, AND THE AMCC IN LUBBOCK, VIEWED COMMCTNITY GARDENS, AND SUGGESTED THAT
THE CITY LOOK INTO A SIMILAR PROJECT, ATTENDED THE BAY AREA TRANSPORTATION STATE
OF THE CITIES MEETING, DURING WHICH GALVESTON COUNTY .NDGE YARBROUGH, HARRIS COUNTY
JUDGE ECKELS, AND BRAZORIA COUNTY JUDGE WILEY PRESENTED INFOF2MATION REGARDING THE
CLEAR CREEK PROJECT AND THE GRAND PARKWAY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT ISSUES.
MAYOR WHITAKER REPORTED THAT IN ADDITION TO SOME OF THE SAME MEETING, HE ATTENDED
THE BLACKHAWK ADVISORY BOARD MEETING AND REPORTED LEAGUE CITY HAS EXPRESSED
INTEREST IN PURCHASING CAPACITX IN THE PLANT AND STATED 50 PERCENT OF CAPACITY IS
BEING USED AT THIS TIME AND SUGGESTED A FUTURE WORKSHOP TO DISCUSSS THIS WYTH
COUNCIL, AND ATTENDED FISD REGULAR MEETINGS WITH DISCUSSION REGARDING FACILITATING
JOINT PROJECTS, NEEDS AND CONCERNS.
MAYOR WHITAKER PRESENTED PLAQUES TO MR. KEN GILBREATH WHO HAS SERVED ON THE LIBRARY

BOARD FOR 24 YEARS, AND MR. GEORGE STROUHAI, WHO HAS SERVED 17 YEARS, AND THANKED
BOTH FOR THEIR ACTIVE AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE LIBRARY BOARD.
CITY MANAGER COX PRESENTED THE FIVE STAR AWARD FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1999 TO
MS. PEGGY BUSSEAR, A MEMBER OF THE LIBRARY STAFF. HER NOMINATION READ THAT SHE IS
A GREAT ASSET TO THE LIBRARY, HER STORY TIMES ARE GREAT, AND SHE IS REALLY
MOTZVATING THE CHILDREN TO GET INTO READING.
CITY MANAGER COX ZNTRODUCED MS. KAREN CAPPS, THE NEWLY HIRED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
COORDINATOR.
CITY MANAGER COX REPORTED ON THE Y2K INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER
2, AND SEPTEMBER 16, REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICERS MEETING.
THIS GROUP WILL MEET REGULARLY TO DETERMINE WAYS TO SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT
EMERGENCIES AROUND GALVESTON COUNTY, AND COORDINATE THE INFORMATION FLOW DURING
TIMES OF EMERGENCIES. MR. COX REPORTED THAT MAYOR WHITAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY
STAFF MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF OTHER CITIES IN THE AREA AT THE INVITATION OF
GALVESTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER KEN CLARK TO DISCUSS SEVERAL ROAD PROJECT THE COUNTY
CAN HELP THE CITY WZTH OVER THE NEXT SEVERAI� YEARS. ALSO DISCUSSED WAS THE
POSSIBZLITY OF UTILIZING THE COUNTY' S PURCHASING BIDS THROUGH AN INTERLOCAL
AGREEMENT. MR. COX ALSO REPORTED THAT A MEETING WAS HELD WITH LEAGUE CITY AND
PEARLAND REPRESENTATZVES TO DISCUSS THE PROPOSED ROUTE OF BRITTANX SAY THROUGH THE
THREE CZTIES.
**COUNCIL�MEMBER BRIZENDZNE MO�IED TO APPROVE AUTHORIZING MUSTANG ENGINEERING TO
CONDUCT AN ENGINEERING DESIGN REVIEW OF THE EXXON PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION.
SECONDED BY COUNCII�MEMBER HAJECATE. THE MOTION WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

COLLECTION, DISPOSAL SERVICES AND RECYCLING COLLECTION.
