MEETING IN TIiE NEWLY RENOVATED ACTYVITY BUILDING, ATTENDING THE FOURTH OF JULY
STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING AND REPORTED THAT THE FOURTH OF JIILY CELEBRATION WILL
BE HELD ON M023DAY, JULY STH, AND REPORTED ON ATTENDING TFiE PRAYER BREAKFAST.
COUNCILMEMBER ERICSSON REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE GROIIP TOUR OF THE PORT OF IiOIISTON
AND THE POSITIVE EFFECT THE PORT HAS ON OUR AREA, AND STATED THAT THE INTERVIEW
PROCESS FOR AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR IS MOVING ALONG.
COUNCILMEMBER MANISON REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REGIONAL

COIINCIL OF GOVERNMENTS MEETING HELD IN MONTERREY, CALIFORNIA AND STATED THAT THE
ENTIRE FOCUS WAS ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
COUNCILMEMBER BRIZENDINE REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE BRIO SITE TASK FORCE MEETING
DURING WHICH THE FINAL CLEAN UP APPROVAL WAS DISCUSSED AND THAT THEY ARE WORKING
ON A STEP-BY-STEP PLAN TO DO THE FINAL CLEAN UP.
COIINCILMEI�ER MEASELES REPORTED THAT HE TOOK THE PaRT OF FIOUSTON TOUR, ATTENDED THE
PRAYER BREAKFAST, STATED THAT THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION IS LOOKING AT
BUILDING HEIGHTS, ATTENDED THE COMMUNITY APPEARANCE BOARD MEETING AND THAT THEY ARE
LOOKING AT A " ADOPT A SPOT" PROGRAM, STATED THAT THERE WILL BE TWO MORE COIQCERTS
IN THE PARK AND THAT THE LAST TO PERFORM ON .NLY 16T" WILL BE A SOUTHERN GOSPEL
GRQUP.
MAYOR WHITAKER REPORTED THAT THE GALVESTON COiJN'PY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE

CEiAIR OF THE FQURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE MR. DAN MORGAN APPEARED BEFORE
COUNCIL AND STATED TFiAT THIS YEAR'S CELEBRATION WILL BE THE 104T" CONSECUTIVE
CELEBRATION OF THE FOURTH OF JULY. THIS YEAR'S TIiEME WILL BE " FRIENDSWOOD-
2000" AND THE GRAND MARSHALL WILL SE FORMER MAYOR, COiTNCILMEMBER, AND COUI3TY
COMMISSIONEE2 ED STUART. THE PARADE WILL BEGIN AT 10:00 A.M. WITH 120 ENTRIES
REGISTERED FOR THE PARADE. THE EVENING FESTIVITIES WILL BE IiELD AT BROOKSIDE
INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL ON F.M. 528. FIREWORKS WILL BEGIN AT 9:15 PM AND ENi3 AT
APPROXIMATELY 9:30 P.M. THERE WILL BE 2 SHUTTLE LOCATIONS: HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH
AND FRIENDSWOOD HIGH SCIi00L.
CITY MANAGER COX REPORTED ON THE PROGRESS OF TIiE OPEN SPACE TASK FORCE, REPORTED
THAT THE CITY HAS REQUESTED THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) CONSIDER
INSTALLATION OF SIGNAL IMPROVEMENT5 AT TFiE INTERSECTION OF BAY AREA BOULEVARD AND
F.M. 528, REPORTED THAT THE FIBER OPTIC UPGRADE OF THE CABLE TELEVISION SYSTEM BY
TIME WARNER COMMUNICATIONS (TWC) IS COMPLETE AND THE OFFICIAL SWITCHOVER TO TT-IE NEW
CHANNEL LINEUP AND ADDITIONAL CHANNEL AVAILABILITY IS SCHEDULED FOR JIINE 24, 1999.
MR. COX ALSO REPORTED ON HOU5E BILL 2045 AND THE IMPACT ON THE CITY'S COLLECTION
OF IMPACT FEES TO PAY FOR UTILITIES' INFRASTRUCTURF3. THE PASSING OF THIS BILL WILL
MEAN DEVELOPERS WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY ACCORDING TO THE ACTUAL COST OF
PROVIDING THIS INFRASTRUCTURE, BUT WILL LIKELY PAY FOR ABOUT HALF THAT COST. FOR
THE CITY THIS MEANS THE LOSS OF BETWEEN $100,000 AND $125,000 ANNUALLY IN OUR WATER
AND SEWER BUDGET. MR. COX REPORTED THAT TML HAS MOUNTED A MASSIVE EFFORT TO
ENCOURAGE GOVERNOR BUSH TO NOT SIGH THIS BILL. MR. COX'S EFFORTS INCLUDED
TELEPIiONE CALLS TO BOTH OUR STATE SENATOR MIKE JACKSON AND SENATOR BILL RATLIFF
CHAIR OF THE SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE, DURING THE SESSION, FOLLOWED BY A LETTER AND
PHONE CALL TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE SINCE THE PASSAGE. SO FAR, THERE IS NO
INDICATION OF WHAT THE GOVERNOR MAY DO.

FOR USE OF CITY PARKING PROPERTY FOR PARKING ON SHADWELL.
