GALVESTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER ED STUART APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL T� REMIND COUNCIL OF THE CLEAR CREEK FLOOD CONTROL MEETING THAT WILL BE HELD AT THE LEA6UE CITY CIVIC CENTER ON JULY 22, 1997 FROM 5:30 TO 7:00. COMMISSI.ONER STUART STATED THAT THIS WILL BE THE FIRST QF POSSIBLY 3 PUBLIC HEARING AND THAT THE HARI2IS COt3NTY FLOOD CONTROL, THE CORP OF ENGINEERS, AND GALVESTON COUNTY ARE WORKTNG TOGETHER WI'I'H THTS PiJBL:LC HEARING AND THA� �T IS VITAL FOR RESIDENTS TO ATTEND. COMMISSIONER S`.PUART ALSO REMINDED COtJNCIL TO SU$MIT THREE COUNTY SUPPORTED PROJECTS SUCH AS STREETS, PARKS AND DRAINAGE. AND WOULD LIKE COt3NCIL TO SET UP A MEETING FOR THE NEXT WORIiSHOP WITH COUNTY ,_.,.� JUDGE YARBROUGH AND THE COUNTY COMMISSION�I2S. DI5CUSSION WAS H.ELD REGARDING AL70PTING VISI�N, MISSION AND GOALS OF' THE CITY CQUNCTL. THE VTSION STATEMENT THAT WAS DISCII5SED WAS "TOGETHER WE BUILI7 OUR FUTURE IN A FRIENDLY PLACE TO LIVE, WORK, PLAY, LEARN AN17 WORSHTP. REGARDING THE MISSION STATEMENT, DISCUSSION WAS HELD TO ADD TO THE EYISTING MISSION STATEMENT THE WORDS "TO PRODUCE THE GREATEST LEVEL OF SATISFACTION TO THE CITTZENS", DISCUSSION WAS FfELD REGARDING CITY COUNCIL GdALS AND THE TOPICS DISCUSSED WERE: THE BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMI.TTEE BECOMING A SUB-COMMITTEE OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD; ECQNOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL ATTRACTING AND SUPPORTING DEVEZOPMENT IN THE COMMUNI.TY BY 1998; ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCTZ TO DEVELOP A LONG RANGE (3 YEAR) COMPREHENSIVE ECON�MI.0 (COMMUNI2Y) DEVELOPMENT PLAN BY 199F�; ADOPT A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN BY DE�EMBER 31, 1997, BY THE YEAR 2002; BE PROACTIVE IN DETERMINING FUNDING SOURCES AND PRIORITIZING EXPENDITURES FOR. THE FUTURE; DEVELOP A SYSTEM OF INfiERGOVERNMENTAL. DISCUSSIDN WAS HELD REGARDING VARYING BUSINESSES, ECONOM_CC DEVELOPMENT, NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERCIAL AND CONIlKUNITY COMMERCIAL, EXISTING NEIGHBORHOQD COMME?12CIAL PROPERTIES, ZONING CATEGORIES, SPECIAL USE PERMITS, AND �IVING THE PLANNING AND ZONING CONINiISSION GREATER FLEXISILITY. THE PROPOSED CHANG�S WERE REFERRED BAGK TO THE PLANNTNG AND ZONING COMMISSION TO BE REVIEWED. MR. TOM BURKE, CHAIR OF THE TREE ORDINANCE COMI�IITTEE, A7�PEARED BE�E'ORE COUNCIL AND REVIEWED THE PROPOSED TREE ORDINANCE AND DETERMINED THAT A SEPARATE ORDTNANC� BE WRITTEN WITH l?ORTIONS OF THE ZONING 0'RDINANCE TO BE `�—' DELETED.
