TERRY BYRD, FIFtE MARSHAL/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR, PRESENTED AN
INFORMATIVE PROGRAM ON "HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS" WITH FIRE CHIEF DAN KEY, EMS
LISA CAMP, AND ASSISTANT FIRE MI�RSHAL MARC FABER PRESENTING THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT EMERGF:NCY MANAGEMENT PLAN.
REPRESENTATIVES FROM RED CROSS, SHIRLEY LINDQUTST AND �HERI MCGAVERN, AND
TOM RYAN FROM THE DEPAR`ITMENT OF PULLIC SAF'ETY, PRESENTED INFORMATION ON
PLANNING EVACUATION AND RECOVERY FROM A HURRICANE.
A QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD WAS HELD FOLLOWING THE PRESENTATIONS. TERRY
BYRD, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR, AND MAYOR NEWMAN SIIMMED UP THE
PROGRAM BY URGING EVERYONE TO BE PREPARED.
„ GALVESTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER ED STUART ANNOUNCED THE CURPS OF ENGINEERS
� HAVE AWARDED THE BID FOR THE SECOND OUTLET TO THE BAY WHICH SH01'JLD TAKE
, ABOUT 2 YEARS, AND REPORTED THERE IS A TENTATIVE LAWSUIT SCHEDULED IN THE
56TH COURT FOR CONDEMNATION OF PROPERTY F'OR THE SECOND REACH. THE PROPERTY
OWNERS ARE ASKING $6 MILLION WITH GALV�STON COUNTY QNLY HAVING $5 MILLION
LEFT FOR THE CLEAR CREEK PROJECT WITH $2 MILLION OWED TO HARRIS COUNTY.
A MOTION WAS MADE AND PASSED TO ADJOURN AT 8:55 P.M.
