REGIONAL FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT DIRECTORS' FIRST MEETING, REGIONAL WATERSHED
TRUSTEES MEETING WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 19TH, REPORTED THAT THE PIPELINE
CONIMITTEE IS SCHEDULED TO MEET WITH EXXON REPRESENTATIVES, REPORTED ON THE

MAYOR NEWMAN REPORTED THAT COUNCIL HAS BEEN VERY BUSY THIS MONTH, REPORTED
ON THE BUDGET WORK SESSION RETREAT AND STATED THE BUDGET WORKSHOP SESSIONS
ARE SCHEDULED FOR THE FIRST WEEK IN AUGUST.
MR. DANNY SCRUGGS WITH TEXAS�NEW MEXZCO POWER (T.N.P. ) . AND MR. GENE BLOUNT
WITH ASPLUNDH TREE SERVICE, PRESENTED INFORMATION REGARDING THE TREE
TRIMMING PROGRAM FOR T.N.P. MR. BLOUNT FEPORTED T.N.P. IS DOING
RE-CONSTRUCTION IN CIRCUITS AND ARE CLEARING TREES, WITH A 10 FOOT
CLEARANCE FROM POWER LINES, AND REPORTED THEY ARE 60 PERCENT COMPLETED WITH
SUNSET/WOODLAWN AREA WITH THE FIRST CIRCUIT TO BE FINISHED TN THE LAST PART
OF 1997 AND THE FIRST OF 1998 THERE WILL BE 3 CIRCUITS OVER A COURSE OF 4
'YEARS WITH T.N.P. HAVING 123,825 MILES OF LINES.
COUNCIL ASKED IF THIS 10 FOOT CLEARANCE IS MANDATORY WITH MR. BLOUNT STATING
THAT IT IS MANDATORY FROM T.N.P. WITH COUNCIL ASKING IF THE TREES CAN BE
SHAPED WITH MR. BLOUNT STATING THAT ON ROAD R.O.W. , THEY TRY TO SHI�PE THE
TREES UP BUT THAT USUALLY THE ROAD SIDE IS FLAT.
MR. BLOUNT STATED THIS REPORT IS INFORMATIONAL ONLI', AND THAT THIS IS GOING
TO BE MORE NOTICEABLE BUT IS A COST SAVINGS FOR T.N.P. AND THE CUSTOMER, AND
STATED A GRID AND A SCHEDULE CAN BE PROVIDED AS TO WHEN AND WHERE THEY WILL
BE WORKING. MR. BLOUNT ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT ASKING FOR PERMISSION BUT
ADV'ISING.
; CITY ATTORNEY JOHN OLSON STATED T.N.P. HAS TIiE RIGHT BY FRANCHISE BUT IT IS
� A PRIVILEGE AS THE CITY HAS SAY OVER THE CITY EASEMENTS.
DISCUSSION WAS HELD AS TO THE DEGREE OF CLEARANCE TO THE LANllSCAPE AND HOW
OTHER CITIES HANDLE THIS MATTER, RADICAL CHANGE TO THE LANDSCAPE, AND WHY IS
COUNCIL BEING ADVISED. COUNCIL REQUESTED A MEETING WITH T.N.P. REGARDING
THE TREE TRIMMING POLICY.
MR. BLOUNT AND MR. SCRUGGS STATED THEY WERE ADVISING COUNCIL BECAUSE THIS IS
A CHANGE FROM HOW THEY HAVE OPERATED IN THE PAST AND IN CASE COMPLAIDITS COME
IN, THEY WANTED TO LET COUNCIL KNOW IN ADVANCE. '
MR., JOHN MOTSCH, WITH THE FRIENDSWOOD GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION APPEARED
BEFORE COUNCIL REGARDING THE IMMEDIATE NEED FOR PLAYING FIELDS AND
ENCOURAGED COUNCIL TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE FRIENDSWOOD SPORTS PARK ON F.M.
