COUNCILMEMBER LOWE AND DICKEY AND CITY MANAGER COX WERE ABSENT FROM THE MEETING. **COUNCILMEMBER MANTSON MOVED TO APPROVE RESOLUTION R96-12, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWQOD, TEXA.S, DECLARING THE NECESSITY FOR THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL ON MONDAY, MARCH 11, 1996 AT 6:30 PM AT FRIENDSWOOD PUB:GIC LIBRARY COMMUNITY ROOM, 416 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXi45, FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCUSSION AND PRESENTATION REGARDING INTERNET, MAKING CERTAIN FINDINGS, AND RATI�YING AND CONFIRMTNG THE CALLING OF SUCH SPECIAL MEETING. SECONDED BY COUNCSLMEMBER HAJECATE. THE MOTION WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. MAYOR NEWMAN THANKED EVERYONE FOR ATTENDING, RECOGNIZIN6 CITY EMPLOYEES IN ATTENDANCE AND TURNED THE MEETING OVER TO COUNCILMEMBER MEASELES FOR A PRESENTATION ON INTERNET. �I�,.�. COUNCILMEMBER ME;ASELES RECOGNIZED THE INT�RNET COMMI.TTEE AND STAFF MARY ' PERRONI AND TODD YEAGER THAT HAVE WOI2KED WITH THE COMMITTEE AND GUEST TONY DAVILA, FROM INTFRNET DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT. COUNCILMEMBER MEASELES TURNED THE PRESENTA7.'ION OVER TO INTERNET COMMITTEE CHAIR JOHN WARMINSKI. j �� CHAIRMAN WARMINSKI PROVIDED AN OVERHEAD COMPUTERIZED PRESENTATION REGARDING ' THE HISTORY OF INTERNET AND THE POSSIBILITIES FOR THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD TO USE INTERNET AS A COMMUNICATION TOOL 7'HAT WOULD BE AN ENHANCED WAY TO PROMOTE THE CTTY FOR ECONOMIC AND RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT. COMMITTEE MEMBER BILL HENSON MADE AN ORAL PRESENTATION REGARDING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, COST SAVINGS, AND COST FOR THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE. MR. HENSON STATED THF's CITY COULD LINK WITH OTHERS AND COULD BE A RESOURCE ,,...�, i C � 862 SHARZNG. MR. HENSON STATED THE CITY'S COST FOR BASIC SFRVICE WITH 10 MGS. , 3 E—MAIL ACCOUNTS WOULD BE $19.95 PER MONTH, $10.00 SET U�?, $50.00 NAME REGISTRATION AND YNTERNET FEE OF ��100.00 PER YEAR WITH IWL WAIVING THE COMMERCIAL FEES. MAYOR AND COUNCIZ DISCUSSED VARYING ASPECTS OF PROVIDING INTERNET TO THE CITY SUCH AS ON—GOING MAINTENANCE, STAFFING AND TIME INVOLV�'.MENT, LEVEL OF COMMITMENT, HOW TO FUND, PERSONAL VERSUS BUSINES� USE, S��CURITY ACCESS, E—MAIL STORED IN ONE ACCOUNT, AND I�IBRARY PERSQNNEL VOLUNTE,ERING TO STORE AND DISTRIBUTE, AND THE AMOUNT OF PAGES PER MESSAGE DEPEDiDS ON IF TEXT ONLY, WOULD HOLD APPROXIMATELY 20 PA,GES.
