HALL WENT VERY SMOOTH. CITY MANAGER COX PARTICULARLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PARKS
AND RECREATION, PUBLIC WORKS, AND UTTLITY BILLING CREWS FOR THEIR
ASSIISTANCE AND THAT THEY PROVIDED THE BACK POWER AND MUSCLE TO GET ALL THE

SETTLEMENT IN THE CLASS ACTION SUIT BETWEEN 57 CITIES IN TEXAS AND S.W; BELL
TELEPHONE, THE CI'I'Y RECEIVED A CASH PAXMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $224,118.10, AN
INCREASE IN THE ANNUAL FRANCHISE PAYMENT, ATfD AN AGREEMENT FOR THE CITY TO
RECEIVE ADDITIONAL SERVICES AND DISCOUNTS IN AN AMOUNT UP TO $242,794.60 AND
THAT THE AGREEMEDfT INDICATE5 THE CITIES MAY OPT TO CASH OUT THE DISCOUNTS
FOR 10 PERCENT OF THE VALUE. CITY MANAGER COX FURTHER STATED, THAT IN
FRIENDSWOOD'S CASL', THE CITY CAN CASH OUT FOR $24,279 AND HAS DNTIL NOVEMBER
29 TO MAKE THIS DECLARATION TO THE COURT OF RECORD. CITY MANAGER COX STATED
THAT IN AN EFFOF.T TO MAKE A THOROUGH REVIEW OF THE OPPORTUNITY', STUART
HERBST AND ASSOCIATES HAS BEEN ASKED TO ASSIST THE CITY AND THAT THEY HAVE
REVIEWED THE SET`.PLEMENT, REVIEWED THE DISCOUNT OPTIONS MADE AVAILABLE BY
S.W. BELL, AND DISCUSSED THE SITUATION WITH THAT COMPANY AND IT IS THEIR
RECOMMENDATION TH��T THE CITY KEEP THE DISCOUNT. CITY MANAGER COX STATED THE
CITY ANTICIPATES BEING ABLE TO USE THE DISCOUNT PACKAGE ON THE NEW
TELECOMMUNICATION� EQUIPMENT AND ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT KNOWN YET EXACTLY HOW
' MUCH THTS WILL AMOUNT T0, IT WILL BE LARGER THAN THE AMOUNT THE CITY COULD
RECEIVE IN CASH. CITY MANAGER COX STATED THAT EVEN IF THE CITY DOES NOT USE
ANY DISCOUNTS TN THE FUTURE, THE CITY WILI� STILL BENEFIT MORE WITH THE
DISCOUNT TOWARD �CHE NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYS�EM AND THAT THIS DISCOUNT
WILL NOW REDUCE �CHE OVERALL COST OF THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS TO WELL WITHIN
THE BUDGET ORIGINALLY PROPOSED AND NO ADDITIONAL SUBSTANTIVE CHANGES ARE
