GOVERNMENT CODE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 55.071, CONSULTATION WITH ATTORNEY.
COUNCIL RECONVENED INTO OPEN SESSION WITH NQ ACTIQN BEING TAKEN.
FRIEND5WOOD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT DEPUTY FIRE MARSHALL MARC FABER
AND MAYOR NEWMAN PRESENTED FIRE PREVENTION WEEK POSTER CONTEST AWARDS TO
' STUDENTS FROM WEDGEWOOD AND CLINE ELEMENTARY. MAYOR NEWMAN THANKED
MARC AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR SPONSORING THIS ANNUAL CONTEST.
INVOCATION WAS GIVEN BY REVEREND DENNIS W. OWENS, NEW LIFE ASSEMBLY.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE WAS LED BY CUB SCOUT PACK 442.
MAYOR NEWMAN PROCLAIMED THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER AS FRIENDSWOOD FAMILY
MONTH AND ON HAND TO RECEIVE THE PROCLAMATION WAS MR. MARSHALL.
MAYOR NEWMAN PRESENTED THE FOLLOWING VISITORS FROM WALES WITH "ADOPTION"
CERTIFICATES MAKING THEM TEXANS: TINA SIMMONS, KENNETH SHAPLEY, SUE LLOYD
KATE FUSSEL, MARK VOCKINS, TIM RUSSELL, RHYS EVELEIGH, DAVID ROWE,

FOR CITIZENS TO DISCARD OLD APPLIANCES, FURNITURE, DEBRIS, ETC. MAYOR
NEWMAN REPORTED THE D�DICATION FOR THE NEW GLULAM PAVILION AT STEVENSON
PARIC WILL BE HELD AT NOON ON WEDNESDAY. MAYOR NEWMAN ANNOUNCED LONG-TIME
RESIDENT AND PAST COUNCILMEMBER JAN JORDAN PASSED AFdAY THURSDAY ArID
SERVICES WERE HELD TODAY. A MEMORIAL FUND HAS BEEN SET UP AT LOCKWOOD
NATIONAL BANK WITH THE FUNDS TO BE USED FOR STEVENSON PARK FOR THE BRICK
PAVERS TO THE GAZEBO. MAYOR NEWMAN REPORTED THAT HERITAGE DAY WAS HELD
SUNDAY WHICH WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL WITH THE PRESENTATION OF THE NEW CENTENNIAL
HISTORY BOOK AND AUTHOR JOYCINA BAKER ON HAND TO AUTOGRAPH.
COUNCILMEMBER HAJECATE REPORTED ON ATTENDING HERITAGE DAY AND STATED
THAT THE HISTORY BOOKS ARE BEAUTIFULLY DONE AND ARE NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH
THE CHAMBER OF CONINSERCE.
COUNCILMEMBER MEASELES REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE CLEAR LAKE COUNCIL OF
CITIES MEETING WITH A VERY INFORMATIVE SPEAKER ON BAYTOWN AREA YOUTH
COMMISSION.
COUNCILMEMBER MANISON REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE CLEAR LAKE AF2EA ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION RECEPTION HONORING DAN GOLDEN, DIRECTOR OF THE NASA
PROGRAM AL023G WITH MAYOR NEWMAN AND COUNCILMEMBER HAJECATE.
COUNCILMEMBER STUART REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE CLEAR CREEK DRAINAGE
DISTRICT MEETING ON TUESDAY WITH DISCUSSION INCLUDING CASTLEWOOD AND
COWARD CREEK BRIDGES AND REPORTED ON THE CLEAR CREEK WATERSHED MEETING HELD
ON WEDNESDAY.
COUNCILMEMBER DICKEY REPOF2TED ON THE PLANNING AND ZONING CONII�IISSION
MEETING AND REPORTED A PRE-APPLICATION WAS CONSIDERED FOR A 12 HOME
SUBDIVISION WITH A PRIVATE STREET CONCEPT, REPORTED SHE WILL BE ATTENDING A
POLITICAL CANDIDATE FORUM ON THURSDAY AND REPORTED ON ATTENDING HERITAGE DAY
WHICH WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.
COUNEILMEMBER LOWE SALUTED THE FRIENDSWOOD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
FOR A VERY SUCCESSFUL OPEN HOUSE WHICH WAS WELL ATTENDED, REPORTED ON
HERITAGE DAY WITH THE PRESENTATION OF THE CENTENNIAL HISTORY SOOK BY
JOYCINA BAKER WHICH RECORDED THE HISTORY OF FRIENDSWOOD, REPORTED ON THE
TNP GULF COAST COALITION OF CITIES MEETING AND THE APPROVED SETTLEMENT,
REPORTED SHE WILL BE A SPEAKER AT THE NLC CONFERENCE, AND WILL SPEAK ON
THE INFaRMATION HIGHWAY AND ANI30UNCED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WON THE LAWSUIT
AGAINST GALVESTON COUNTY REGARDING 6 ADDITIONAL EARLY VOTING PLACES WITH ONE
BEING IN THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD.
CITY MANAGER RON COX PRESENTED THE FIVE STAR SPIRIT AWA.RD TO POLICE OFFICER
MIKE MESSER WHO HAS BEEN WITH THE CITY SIX YEARS. HE WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE
OF THE GREAT EXAMPLE OF THE APPROPRIATE ATTITUDE AND APPROACH TO COMMUNITY
ORIENTED POLICING.
CITY MANAGER REPORTED ON THE EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT, FREAKY FRIDAY JOB SWAP TQ
BE HELD OCTOBER 21, EPA AUTHORIZING THE BRIO SITE TASK FORCE TO REMOVE THE
INCINERATOR AND REVIEW OTHER REMEDIAL ALTERNATIVES, AND THE CLEARING OF 16

PROPERTY SO THAT A DETAILED TOPOGRAPHICAL REPORT CAN BE MADE.
COUNCILMEMBER STUART ASKED ABOUT THE COST FOR MOWII3G AND CLEARING THE
SPORTS COMPLEX PROPERTY WITH CITY MANAGER ADVTSING THE CONTRACTOR ONLY DID
ENOUGH CLEAN UP TO ALLOW THE SURVEY ACCESS TO THE PROPERTY AND CLEANED THE

COUNCILMEMBER DICKEY ASKED WHEN THE SIGN FOR THE SPORTS COMPLEX WILL GO
° UP WITH THE CITY MANAGER ADVISING HE IS KOT SURE AND REPORTED THE SIGN IS
BEING BUILT AT THIS TIME.
COUNCILMEMBER LOWE STATED THAT THE MAJORITY OF SANITARY DRAINS OVERFLOW
ARE DUE TO BLOCKAGE FROM SIMPLE HOUSEHOLD GREASE, REPORTED THE ROADWAY IN
FRONT OF THE FRIENDS CHURCH ON FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE IS LOSING A GREAT DEAL OF
ROADWAY WITH THE CITY MANAGER ADVISING THAT HE HAS DI5CU5SED THIS ISSUE WITH
JOHN PINKSTON WITH TX DOT OVER A YEAR AGO AND WILL FOLLOW UP.
**COUNCILMEMBER HAJECATE MOVED FOR APPROVAL TO AUTHORIZE WAYNE SMITH
AND ASSOCIATES TO PROCEED WITH ENGINEERING AND DESIGN FOR THE SOUTH
FRIENDSWOOD WATERLINE PROJECT.
