RETREAT LAST WEEK , TOURED THE HOUSTON SOUTH EAST WATER
PURIFICATION SITE LAST WEEK , ANNOUNCED SHE HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO
THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE INTERGOVERNMENTAL RISK POOL , REPORTED
ON THE SENIOR CITIZEN ' S MEETING HELD TODAY , REPORTED THE SENIOR ' S
ARE REQUESTING A NEW VAN AND ARE DEDICATED TO RAISING $ 10 , 000
WITH VARIOUS FUND RAISERS AND REPORTED THERE IS $17 , 000 LEFT IN
THE BUDGET FOR SIDEWALKS , WHICH IS PLANNED TO COVER AS MUCH AREA

COUNCILMEMBER MANISON REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE REGULAR MONTHLY
H . G . A . C . MEETING AND STATED IT APPEARED THERE MAY BE ADDITIONAL
FUNDING FOR BIKE PATHS , WHICH THE CITY HAS REQUESTED FUNDING FOR
TWO BIKE PATH PROJECTS .
COUNCILMEMBER STUART REPORTED ATTENDING THE TAXPAYER RESEARCH
COUNCIL MEETING IN LA MARQUE LAST THURSDAY WITH GUEST SPEAKER
SHERIFF JOE MAX TAYLOR SPEAKING ON JAIL OVERCROWDING AND REPORTED
SHERIFF TAYLOR INVITED GROUPS OF SIX OR MORE TO TOUR THE JAIL .
COUNCILMEMBER DICKEY REPORTED SHE TOURED THE HOUSTON SOUTH EAST
WATER PURIFICATION PLANT AND VOLUNTEERED TO HELP COMMUNITY
APPEARANCE BOARD WITH THE CLEAN UP OF FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE ON
SATURDAY . •
COUNCILMEMBER MANISON ANNOUNCED THAT COUNCILMEMBER DICKEX ' S
FATHER IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND ASKED EVERYONE TO KEEP HIM IN THEIR
PRAYERS .
COUNCILMEMBER LOWE REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE BLACKHAWK WASTEWATER
TREATMENT PLANT MEETING , STATED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE
CONTINUATION OF THE INFLOW AND INFILTRATION PROGRAM WHICH IS AN
EXCELLENT MAINTENANCE PLAN, REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE CITY OF
HOUSTON MEETING ON THE H. L . &P RATE INCREASE WITH ADMINISTRATIVE
DIRECTOR ROGER ROECKER , REPORTED ON THE TEXAS NEW MEXICO RATE
INCREASE MEETINGS , REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE TAXPAYER RESEARCH
COUNCIL MEETING , ANNOUNCED SHE WILL BE ATTENDING THE TEXAS
MUNICIPAL LEAGUE CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE MEETING IN AUSTIN ON
FRIDAY AND REPORTED SHE WILL ATTEND THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES
SMALL CITIES ADVISORY STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING IN ST LOUIS NEXT
THURSDAY .
MAYOR NEWMAN ANNOUNCED THE GALVESTON CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT
WILL HOLD A MEETING ON THURSDAY AT 2 : 00 PM AT TEXAS CITY HALL TO
PRESENT THE BUILDING PLANS FOR THE CAD BUILDING WHICH WILL
REQUIRE A VOTE BY ALL TAXING ENTITIES IN JULY .
COUNCILMEMBER STUART ANNOUNCED THE DIRT WORK ON THE NEW CITY HALL
BEGAN TODAY -- THE NEW CITY HALL IS FINALLY ON THE WAY !

MASTER JIM CURRY , A TWELVE YEAR OLD AT FRIENDSWOOD JUNIOR HIGH ,
APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL TO DISCUSS INLINE SKATING IN THE CITY
STREETS AND PRESENTED A PETITION TO COUNCIL TO CHANGE ORDINANCE
300 , SECTION 8 TO REQUEST COUNCIL TO AMEND THE ORDINANCE TO ALLOW
INLINE SKATING . CITY MANAGER RON COX ADVISED HE HAS REQUESTED
CHIEF OF POLICE JARED STOUT TO REVIEW THIS REQUEST AND MAKE A
RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL . MASTER CURRY ASKED CITY MANAGER RON
COX , HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE THIS RECOMMENDATION? CITY
MANAGER RON COX ADVISED HE WOULD DISCUSS THIS ISSUE WITH CHIEF
STOUT AT THE STAFF MEETING ON TUESDAY MORNING .
MS . JULIE WIER APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL TO URGE COUNCIL TO
CONTINUE THE COUNSELING CENTER CONTRACT . MS . WIER STATED SHE HAS
BEEN IN COUNSELING SINCE JANUARY AND WOULD REQUEST COUNCIL TO
CONTINUE THE CONTRACT .
MR . CHARLES �ILLER WITH CHUCK MILLER FORD , RESPONDED TO THE
SENIOR CITIZENS PLAN TO REPLACE THE SENIOR CENTER ' S VAN , BY
STATING HE WOULD PROVIDE A VAN TO THE SENIORtS AT COST .
MR . CHARLES MILLER APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL TO MAKE AN IMPASSIONED
PLEA REGAADING THE HANDLING OF VICIOUS DOGS , PROVIDING
INFORMATION ON A RECENT VICIOUS ATTACK ON HIS DOG BY TWO
NEIGHBORHOOD DOGS . MR . MILLER STATED HE WAS ADVISED BY A HUMANE
OFFICER THAT ONE DOG WOULD BE DESTROYED AND ANOTHER WOULD BE
GIVEN TO SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS . MR . MILLER URGED
THE COUNCIL TO LOOK TNTO THIS POLICY AS THESE DOGS HAVE KILLED A
SMALL POODLE RECENTLY AND COULD HAVE EASILY HAVE ATTACKED A SMALL
CHILD . MAYOR NEWMAN THANKED MR . MILLER FOR BRINGING THIS ISSUE TO
COUNCIL ' S ATTENTION AND ADVISED THE CITY WOULD REVIEW THE POLICY
ON HANDLING VICIOUS ANIMALS AND STATED THE LEASH LAW IS TO BE
ENFORCED .
CITY MANAGER REPORTED ON ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING ON SPORTS COMPLEX
PR�PERTY BY ENVIROTEST FOR PHASE I , CITY HALL PRE-CONSTRUCTION
MEETING HELD ON JUNE 13 , 1994 , LIBRARY RENOVATION - FINAL WALK-
THROUGH JUNE 13 , 1994 , COUNCIL/STAFF PRE-BUDGET PLANNING RETREAT
HELD ON JUNE 15 , 1994 AND NEGOTIATIONS TOWARDS SETTLEMENT OF THE
TEXAS-NEW MEXICO POWER RATE CASE .
COUNCILMEMBER STUART ADVISED THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM AT THE NEW
LIBRARY BUILDING NEEDS TO BE RESET AND STATED THE LAWN APPEARS TO
HAVE A LOT OF CRABGRASS . CITY MANAGER RON COX STATED HE BELIEVED
THE CRABGRASS IS IN THE CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY AND NOT THE LIBRARY
LAWN .
COUNCILMEMBER DICKEY ASKED WHEN THE COMPLETION DATE OF THE NEW
LIBRARY IS SCHEDULED WITH CITY MANAGER RON COX ADVISING THE
CONTRACTOR HAS BEEN GIVEN AN ADDITIONAL WEEK TO COMPLETE THE
PUNCH LIST AND TO FINALIZE THE CARPET ISSUE .
COUNCILMEMBER LOWE ASKED IF THE CITY HAS REQ�ESTED ADDITIONAL
TIME ON THE CONTRACT WITH THE WEST ' S FOR PURCHASE OF THE PROPERTY
FOR THE SPORTS COMPLEX WITH CITY MANAGER RON COX RESPONDING HE
HAS DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH THE WEST ' S , ADVISING IT WILL BE

APPR�XIMATELY TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE CONTRACT IS READY FOR
EXECUTION .
MAYOR NEWMAN ANNOUNCED "THE GATHERING" WILL BE HELD ON JULY 3RD
AT ARENA PARK AND THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE 4TH OF JULY WILL BEGIN
AT 8 : 00 AM , THE PARADE AT 10 : 00 AM , WITH A PATRIOTIC THEME
"SALUTING GREAT AMERICAN HEROES" , AND GROUND BREAKING FOR CITY
HALL AT 12 : 00 , FOLLOWED BY FESTIVITIES IN STEVENSON PARK
INCLUDING LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ON TWO STAGES . MAYOR NEWMAN
ANNOUNCED THE NIGHT PROGRAM WILL BEGIN AT 7 : 00 PM AT THE
FRIENDSWOOD HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM WITH ENTERTAINMENT AND LASER AND
FIRE WORKS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 9 : 05 AND END AT 9 : 30 PM .
COUNCILMEMBER LOWE ANNOUNCED THE CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE WILL HAVE A
BOOTH IN STEVENSON PARK ON THE �TH OF JULY FOR PRE-SALE ORDERS
FOR THE HISTORY BOOK AND WILL BE SELLING PINS AND POSTERS , WITH
LAURIE WHITEHEAD AVAILABLE TO AUTOGRAPH THE POSTERS .
