MAYOR EVELYN B . NEWMAN MAYOR PRO-TEM MEL MEASELES COUNCILMEMBER KITTEN HAJECATE COUNCILMEMBER TOM MANISON COUNCILMEMBER ED STUART COUNCILMEMBER FRANK FRANKOVICH CITY MANAGER RON COX CITY SECRETARY DELORIS MCKENZIE FRIENDSWOOD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESIDENT MARK GARVIN AND FIRE CHIEF RICK MCFEE PRESENTED A VIDEO OF A TYPICAL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT. MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL THANKEA THE FVFD FOR THEIR MANY HOURS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF FRIENDSWOOD . DISCUSSION WAS HELD WITH THE SENIQR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND GALVESTON COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS DIRECTOR JULIE PENROD GLEN REGARDING SENIOR CITIZENS PROGRAM WITH RECOMMENDATIONS PRESENTED BY CHAIRMAN BETTY MILLER FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF A FIVE DAY A WEEK , YEAR ROUND PROGRAM WITH A FULL TIME STAFF PERSON . COUNCIL DISCUSSED THE NEED FOR THIS TYPE OF A PROGRAM AND DISCUSSED THE FUNDING AVAILABLE WITH THE COUNTY TO PROVIDE A VAN AND INSURANCE IN THIS BUDGET YEAR . COUNCILMEMBER MANISON EXPRESSEA CONCERN REGARDING POSSIBLE FEDERAL FUNDING CUTS AND STRESSED THE CITY SHOULD PROCEED CAUTIOUSLY UNTIL FUNDS ARE AFPROPRIATED . ACTION WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING . DISCUSSI023 WAS HELD WITH MEMBERS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD AND MEMBERS OF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY REGARDING STEVENSON PARK . HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESIDENT SKY LYNN MINKOFF PRESENTED A;° VERY INFORMATIVE HISTOAICAL REVIEW OF THE THREE LOG CABINS OF THE STEVENSONS FAMILY THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO BE MOVED TO STEVENSON PARK . PARKS AND RECREATION BQARD GHAIRMAN PENNY BURKE REPORTED THE BOARD VOTED ON RELOCATING THE EMMA STEVENSON CASIN WHICH WOULD BE A TWQ YEAR PROJECT AND WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $30 , 000 . MAYOR NEWMAN STATED THE GITY WOULD NEED COST ESTTMATES FOR MOVING AND RE-CONSTRUCTING THE CABINS AND A STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL REPORT ON THE CABINS BEFORE COUNCIL COULD CONSIDER AGCEPTANCE OF THE CABINS . MS . MINKOFF REPORTED THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS ACCEFTED ALL THAEE CABINS . ..._.___,...-�---� 226 DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING FUTURE ADDITIONAL PARKING FOR THE SWIMMING POOL AT STEVENSON PARK . DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDTNG POSSIBLY PURCHASING ADDITIONAL PROPERTY . DISCUSSION WAS HELD AEGARDING PARKS AND RECREATION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FACILITY USER FEES . COUNCIL REQUESTED STAFF LOOK AT COST AT RENWICK PARK FOR LIGHTING FOR EVENING PROGRAMS . DISCUSSION REGARDING RECOMMENDATION FOR LIGHTING FRIENDSWOOD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL FIELD . STAFF ADVISED COST WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $25 , 000 WITH THE SCHOOL PARTICIPATING . COUNCIL EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER THE IMPACT TO THE AREA RESIDENTS WITH STAFF ADVISING THE SCHOOL IS SCHEDULING A MEETING WITH THE HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION . MAYOR NEWMAN SUGGESTED STAFF BRING BACK A RECOMMENDATION AFTER THE MEETING WITH THE HOMEOWNERS . DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING THE POTENTIAL TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HIGHWAY PROJECTS . STAFF PROPOSED ADDING EL DORADO , FM 528 , BAY AREA BOULEVARD EXTENSION AND THE SOUTH LOOP ON THE MASTER THROUGHFARE PLAN TO THE PROJECT LIST . COUNCIL CONCURRED WITH THE RECOMMENDATION .
