Community Development Director Subject: Traffic Signals at the intersections of Falling Leaf Drive and Sunset Drive and W. Castlewood Avenue and Sunset Drive Contractor: Traffic Control Devices, Inc. Contract Date: August 6, 1999 Original Contract Amount: $150,122.61 The above contract has been increased by the following amounts: 1. Additional materials and work required to install RCP culverts, a grate top inlet, bedded in cement stabilized sand and backfilled to the elevation of existing natural ground. The existing plans called for a culvert crossing of the sidewalk traversing existing ditches on Sunset at its intersections with Falling Leaf Drive and W. Castlewood Avenue. During the final inspection, it was determined that the side slopes of the ditches at three separate locations were too steep and that because of the depth of the roadside ditch, the existing ditch between the back of curb and the new sidewalk should be filled. Also identified during the final inspection, was the need to expand the pavement at the intersection of Falling Leaf Drive to accommodate the turning radius of school buses using that intersection. Attached, please find a copy of the proposal from the contractor for completing this work. The total cost to address the items identified during the final inspection is $15,520.84 2. Additional work is required to revise the signal timing at both intersections to change the operation from split phasing to two-phase operation. The lenses in four of the signal heads would need to be rearranged and then rewired in the control cabinets. The contractor would perform this work for$1,014.24. This change would allow for minimal delays to through traffic on Sunset Drive. It would, however, also remove the protected left turn for Sunset traffic at both intersections (refer to attached letter from TEI).
