MAYOR SCHRADER ADVISED THOSE IN ATTENDANCE THAT ACCORDING TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, SCHOOLS WERE NOT REQUIRED TO GO THRU THE RE-ZONING PROCESS BUT THAT C . C. I .S.D . IS PROCEEDING WITH THIS PROCESS AS THIS HAS BEEN THE PRACTICE IN FRIENDSWOOD. HEARING NO FURTHER. COMMENTS, THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED . MAYOR SCHRADER PROCLAIMED THE FOLLOWING, FEBRUARY AS "AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH" , FEBRUARY AS °NATIONAL CHILDRENS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH" , FEBRUARY AS "AMERICAN HEART MONTH" , FEBRUARY AS "FREEDOM MONTH" , WEEK OF FEBRUARY 4-9 , AS "BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA ANNIVERSARY WEEK" , WEEK OF FEBRUARY 11 -15 , AS "NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION WEEK" AND. MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED ON ATTENDING THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL 410 LEGISLATIVE BRIEFING IN AUSTIN TODAY WITH CITY MANAGER RON COX REPOATED THE GALVESTON COUNTY MAYORS AND COUNCILMEMBERS DECLARED FEBRUARY 18 AS PATRIOTIC DAY IN GALVESTON COUNTY AND MAYOR SCHRADER PROPOSED THAT FRIENDSWOOD HOLD A PATRIOTIC RALLY ON THIS DAY AND CHANGE THE REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING TO FEBRUARY 25TH. MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED THE RECYCLING TOWN MEETING HELD SATURDAY '• AT FIRE STATION 1 WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL WITH OVER 600 PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN THE EARLY DROP OFF AND LEARNING ABOUT CURBSIDE RECYCLING WHICH BEGINS TODAY. MAYdR SCHRADER REPORTED THE FINAL CENSUS COUNTY IS 22, $14 . MAYOR SCHRADER ANNOUNCED THAT CITY SECRETARY DELORIS ARCHER COMPLETED HER RE-C.ERTIFICATION. MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED ON CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED FROM GALVESTON COUNTY JUDGE RAY HOLBROOK ON THE DICRINSON BAYOU DRAINAGE PLAN. COUNCILMEMBER RITTER REPO�RTED ON INFORMATION FROM TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD ON THE STATE CONGRATULATED JON. BRANSON AND THE PARKS DEPARTMENTG ONFUTHE RECYCLING TOWN MEETING EFFORTS AND CONGRATULATED THE CHAMBER FOR THE VERY SUCCESSFUL 3RD ANNUAL "LIQUID FIRE�+ CHILI COOK OFF WHICH WAS HELD SATURDAY. COUNCILMEMBER WICKLANDER CONGRATULATED THE CHAMBER ON THE SUCCESSFUL CHILI COOK OFF AND REPORTED THERE WAS A GOOD TURN OUT FOR THE RECYCLING ,TOWN MEETING, REPORTED ON MEETING WITH CITY MANAGER AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR REGARDING THE ROAD PROGRAM AND THEY WILL HAVE A REPORT FOR COUNCIL AT THE NEXT MEETING ON THE ROAD PROJECTS. COUNCILMEMBER RALEY REPORTED ON THE NEW FOCUS PROGRAM SCHEDULED FOR THIS THURSDAY, REPORTED HE ATTENDED THE H.G.A . C . ANNUAL MEETING, REpORTED ON THfi RECENT LEGISLATIVE BRIEFING FROM TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE AND URGED COUNCIL AND STAFF TO LOOK INTO THE BILLS BEING INTRObUCED THAT COULD AFFECT THE CITY. COUNCILMEMBER FRANKOVICH REMINDED EVERYONE OF THE WORKSHOP ON THE PUBLIC GRANT FUND TO BE HELD IN AUSTIN ON FEBRUARY 25TH, REPORTED ON THE FM 528 WIDENING PROJECT, REPORTED ON THE INFILTRATION PROBLEM IN SUNMEADOW SUBDIVISION UNDERWATER DURING THE LAST RAIN STORM ANDORREPORTEDHOTHAT THEO GLANTON WHO LIVES IN FRIENDSWOOD AND WORKS FOR THE CITY OF HOUSTON HAS OFFERED TO HELP SET UP A PROGRAM TO SOLVE THE CITIES INFILTRATION PROBLEMS. 1'ENNY BURKE , CHAIRMAN PARKS AND RECREATION BaARD APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL AND PRESENTED A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE PARKS BOARD FOR REPAVING OF SHADWELL LANE NEXT TO STEVENSON PARK AND DISCUSSED A JOGGING TRAIL AND BRIDGE TO CONNECT STEVENSON PARK AND ARENA PARK. MS. BURKE INTRODUCED THE MEMHERS OF THE PARKS BOARD THAT WERE PRESENT. LARRY TALLEY, REERESENTING CHAPEL HILL SUBDIVISION HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION, APPEARED BEFORE COUNCIL TO EXPRESS CONCERNS REGARDING THE USE OF ARENA PARK BY CLEAR CREEK DRAINAGE DISTRICT TO STORE SPOIL MATERIAL FROM THE CREEK BANKS AND ASKED COUNCIL WHEN WILL C. C .D .D. MOVE THIS MATERIAL. MR . TALLEY REPORTED THERE 2 411 WERE 3 CHILDREN IN THIS AREA AND EXPRESSED CONCERN FOR THEIR SAFETY. COUNCIL RECOMMENDED MR . TALLEY MEET WITH THE C. C .D .D . REGARDING THIS MATTER AND MAYOR SCHRADER ADVISED HE WOULD SEND A LETTER REGARDING THIS MATTER TO C . C .D.D . . COUNCIL CONCURRED WITH THIS PROPOSAL AND MAYaR SCHRADER ADVISED A LETTER OF REQUEST WILL BE SENT TO THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FOR CONSIDERATION IN APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK , IN ORDER TO RECEIVE INPUT FROM THE COMMUNITY.
