MAYOR SCHRADER ANNOUNCED A MEETING WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY JANUARY 14TH AT CITY HALL AT 9 : 00 A .M. TO DISCUSS SENIOR CITIZENS NEEDS AND EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND . MAYOR SCHRADER ANNOUNCED THAT EARLIER IN THE YEAR HE CONTACTED THE HIGH SCHOOL TO SEE IF THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HOLDING A STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY AND THAT HAS BEEN SET FOR APRIL 10TH WITH COUNCILMEMBER LEE VOLUNTEERING TO WORK WITH THE MAYOR ON TH.IS PROGRAM. MAYOR SCHRADER ANNOUNCED THAT ON JANUARY 29TH THERE WILL BE A ROAST HELD FOR POLICE CHIEF MITCH WRIGHT AT GOLFCREST COUNTRY CLUB IN H�NOR OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 25 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE , CITY . TICKETS ARE ON SALE HERE AT CITY HALL AND AT TEXAS COMMERCE BANK AND COMMUNITY BANK . MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED THAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED A MAJORITY VOTE FOR THE RE-ELECTION OF PAUL MAAZ TO THE HARRIS/GALVESTON SUBSIDENCE DISTRICT. MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED THERE WOULD BE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION NEXT MEETING FOR REVIEW OF THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY SECRETARY . MAYOR SCHRADER REPORTED THAT ON DECEMBER 31 , 1988 , CITY MANAGER ANNETTE BRAND AND HIMSELF DELIVERED A $2 . 7 MILLION DOLLAR CHECK TO THE CITY OF HOUSTON WHICH PAID FRIENDSWOOD ' S PORTION OF THE ELLINGTON WATER PLANT IN FULL . COUNCILMEMBER JORDAN SUGGESTED THE CITY HOST A SMALL OPEN HOUSE FOR NEWLY ELECTED COUNTY COMMISSIONER WAYNE JOHNSON IN ORDER THAT HE COULD MEET FRIENDSWOOD CITIZENS . COUNCILMEMBER JORDAN SUGGESTED HOSTING THIS OPEN HOUSE AT THE LIBRARY ON WEDNESDAY , JANUARY 25TH FROM 7 : 00 TO 8 : 00 PM ON THE SAr1E LINES AS THE OPEN HOUSE HELD FOR ANNETTE BRAND AS NEW CITY MANAGER , COUNCIL HAD NO OBJECTIONS TO THIS SUGGESTION . THIS ITEM WILL BE ON NEXT WEBK ' S AGENDA FOR COUNCIL ACTION . CITY MAI3AGER REPORTED ON STREET PROJECTS ON LEISURE LANE AND SOUTH CLEAR CREEK DRIVE , MUNICIPAL SWIMMING POOL LEAK , ADVISED INTERVIEWS WERE HELD SATURDAY WITH FINANCE DIRECTOR APPLICANTS WITH COUNCILMEMBER RITTER ASSISTING , ADVISED 69, APPLICATIONS WERE RECEIVED AND ALSO ADVTSED 126 POLICE CHIEF APPLICATIONS WERE RECEIVED . CITY MANAGER ANNOUNCED THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD IS PROUD TO RECOGNIZE DETECTIVE FRANK FIDELIBUS GRADUATION FROM F . B. I NATIONAL ACADEMY AND REQUESTED CHIEF MITCH WRIGHT TO PRESENT A BRIEF REPORT ON THIS EVENT . 1 4 . CHIEF WRIGHT RESPONDED BY STATING THIS WAS THE 1�54TH SESSION OF THE FBI NATIONAL ACADEMY WITH 199 LAW rNFORCEMENT OFFICERS ENROLLED . CHIEF WRIGHT STATED COMRADERY , PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT , AND INTENSE STUDY MARKED THE 11 -WEEK NATIONAL ACADEMY TRAINING PROGRAM. CHIEF WRIGHT STATED THAT TODAY , 21 ,732 MEN AND WOMEN HAVE GRADUATED AND MORE THAN 1 �l � 000 ARE STILL _ ACTIVE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE TRAINING IS EVIDENT , AS ONE OUT OF EVERY EIGHT CURRENT GRADUATE RANKS AS ' THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF A POLICE AGENCY . CHIEF WRIGHT STATED THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THIS CLASS CAME FROM u7 STATES , THE DISTRICT OF • .� COLUMBIA, SEVERAL U .S . POSSESSIONS , 13 FOREIGN COUNTRIES � 5 MILITARY UNITS AND 1 FEDERAL CIVILIAN AGENCY . CHIEF WRIGHT PRESENTED DETECTIVE FRANK FIDELIBUS AND STATED HOW PROUD THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD IS OF THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT . THOSE IN ATTENDANCE GAVE DETECTIVE FRANK FIDELIBUS A STANDING OVATION FOR A JOB WELL DONE . DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING APPOINTING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF APPOINTING PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION WITH ADDITIONAL MEMBERS AND ADOPTING PRQCEDURAL RULES . COUNCIL DIRECTED THIS ITEM BE PLACED ON THE JANUARY 16TH AGENDA FOR ACTION DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING TYPE OF MEDIANS ON FM 2351 AND FM 518 TO I-�5 WITH LENGTHY DISCUSSION REGARDING RAISED MEDIANS VERSUS CONTINUOUS LEFT HAND TORN WITH NUMEROUS COMMERCIAL REPRESENTATIVES ATTENDING AND REQUESTING COUNCIL TO CONSIDER FLUSH MEDIANS .
