HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes 1988-09-16 Special 463 SPECIAL MEETING FRIENDSWOOD CTTY COUNCIL 5EPTEMBER 16, 198$ MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL THAT WAS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 16 , 1988 AT CITY HALL AT 6 : 30 PM WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: • .� MAYOR PAUL SCHRADER MAYOR PRO-TEM JOE PRIHODA COUNCILMEMBER RON RITTER COUNCILMEMBER EVELYN NEWMAN COUNCILMEMBER PHYLLIS LEE COUNC•ILMEMBER JAN JORDAN CITY MANAGER ANNETTE BRAND ABSENT FROM THE MEETING WAS COUNCILMEt1BER BOB WICKLANDER AND CITY 5ECRETARY DELORIS MCKENZIE. ' � MAYOR SCHRADER CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER. � EMERGENCY MANAGER COORDINATOR RUSSELL WILLIAMS PRESENTED A UPDATE � ON HURRICANE GILBERT WHICH APPEARS TO BE HEADED INTO MEXICO BUT �r STATED OPERATIONS WOULD BE ON REMOTE STANDBY CONDITIONS. � POLICE CAPTAIN JIMMY HOLLAND ADVISED THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WOULD Q GO BACK ON REGULAR OPERATIONS TOMfJRROW AT 6:00 PM. MAYOR SCHRADER STATED THE EFFORTS BY RUSSELL WTLLIAMS, JIMMY HOLLAND, DISPATCH PERSONNEL AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT HELPED DURING THIS PERIOD WITH HURRICANE GILBERT WERE GREATLY APPRECIATED . **MOTION WAS MADE BY COUNCILMEMBER NEWMAN TO RATIFY AND CONFSRM EXECUTION OF CONTRACT WITH MR. W.O. "BUTCH" BLOODWORTH DBA � T.A.A.S. , INC . , FOR EMERGENCY CLEAN UP AS NECESSARY FROM � HURRICANE GILBERT. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER LEE. MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY . **MOTION WAS MADE BY COUNCILMEMBER LEE TO APPROVE 88-13E, AN ORDINANCE FREEZING PRICES CHARGED TO CONSUMERS BY VENDORS, MERCHANTS AND OTHER PERSONS SELLING, OR OFFERING TO SELL, EITHER RETAIL OR WHOLESALE, LEASE, OR RENT ANY GOODS OR SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD , TEXAS; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY DUE TO THE IMMINENT THREAT TO THE CITIZENS OF FRIENDSWOOD BY HURRICANE GILBERT, WHICH WILL EXPIRE IN THIRTY DAYS. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER JORDAN. MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILMEMBER RITTER STATED HE WOULD LIKE THE TO SEE THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL USED AS A SHELTER IF THE NEED ARISES AGRIN.
