c'S THE CITY IS WORKING WITH THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT ON WIDENING
FM 518 TO FOUR LANES FROM BRAZORIA COUNTY LINE AND FM 2351 TO THE
GULF FREEWAY. ACCORDING TO THE CITY MANAGER THE COUNTY DID PAY
TO THE STATE SOME $91�000 FOR WIDENING FM 518 FROM CASTLEWO�D TO
WHISPERING PINES WHICH WA5 APPRW ED IN THE GALV ESTON COUNTY BOND
ISSUE.
MAYOR LOWE ANNOUNCED THE RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE MET LA5T
� THURSDAY WITH EIGHT MEMBERS REPRESENTING EIGHT DIFFERENT
� COMMITTEES TO REVIEW V ARIOUS ORDINANCES AND RULES OF THE CITY.
MAYOR LOWE ANNOUNCED THAT HE HAD PUT TOGETHER A MEETING ON
DECEMBER 2 HERE IN .FRIENDSWOOD IN REGARDS TO THE CLEAR CREEK
FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT AND OUT OF THAT MEETING IT WA5 DETERMINED
THAT CORP OF ENGINEER5 GORDAN rLARK WOULD MEET WITH HARRIS COUNTY
JUDGE JON LINDSEY TO WORR ON THIS PROGRAM. MAYOR LOWE READ
CORRESFONDENCE HE HA5 WRITTEN TO JUDGE LINDSEY CONFIRMING THIS
MEETING.
MAYOR LOWE READ CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE CITY SECRETARY AWISING
SHE HAD BEEN CONTACTED BY THE COUNTY CLERKS OFFICE REGARDING A
PROPOSED WET/DRY ELECTION WHICH IS BEING WORKED ON BY THE COUNTY
AT THIS TIME.
MAYOR LOWE READ CORRESPONDENCE FROM HARRIS-GALV ESTON COASTAL
SUBSIDENCE DISTRICT ADVISING THAT MR. HERHERT B . LANGFORD, JR.
WILL BE UP FOR RE-APPOINTMENT BY THE MAYORS OF THE CITIES OF
GALV STON COUNTY FOR A TWO-YEAR TERM. IT WAS DECIDED TO REQUEST
MR. LANGFORD TO ATTEND THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING.
MA�OR LOWE PRESENTED THE KEY TO THE CITY TCJ ASTRONAUT JERRY ROSS,
A FRIENDSWOOD RESIDENT WHO FLEW WITH THE SPACE SHUTTLE
"ATLANTIS" . MR. ROSS PRESENTED A COLLAGE OF ITEMS INCLUDING THE
CREW PATCH AND A FLAG WHICH WAS FLOWN IN SPACE TO THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD.
COUNCILMAN WICRLANDER STATED LETTERS AND PHONE CA�,LS HAV E BEEN
RECEIV ED REGARDING LEISURE LANE AND ADVISED THE CITY IS MOVING
FORWARD ON THIS PROJECT. THE CITY IN HOUSE ENGINEER IS WORKING
ON THE ENGII�EEERING.

FRIENDSWOOD. THE CITY ENGINEER REPORTED HE SPOKE TO A CONTRACTOR
AND WAS QUOTED APPROXIMATELY $10 TO $15 THOUSAND DOLr,AR5 TO LAY
THE LINE UNDER THE CREEK INSTEAD ON THE PILINGS AS DESIGNED.
MAYOR LOWE REQUESTED THE CITY MANAGER TO LOOK INT� THE COST TO
LAY A 14 INCH WATER LINE UNDERGROUND WITH COUNCIL CONCURRING.
COUNCILMAN NEWMAN ANNOUNCED THE CITY OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED
DECEMBER 24 AND 25 AND DECEMBER 31 FOR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS AND
WISHED EVERYONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
CITY ENGINEER REPORTED THE ELEVATED WATER STORAGE PAINT
CONTRACTOR HAS NOT BEEN HEAR FROM. IF THE CONTRACTOR IS NOT
HEARD FROM A CERTIFIED LETTER WILL BE SENT CALLING IN THE BOND,
MR. MORGAN WILL WORK WITH THE CITY ATTORNEY TO PREPARE THIS
- LETTER.
A LENGTHY DISCUS5ION WAS HELD REGARDING FIRE PROTECTION IN FOREST
BEND WITH THE FOREST BEND V OLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT STATING THEY
WILL GIVE 30 DAY'S NOTICE TO THE HOME �WNERS ASSOCIATION THAT THE
CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD WILL BEGIN �'IRE PROTECTION ON JANUARY 17 IF A
CONTRACT IS NOT WORKED OUT PRIOR TO THIS DATE.
THE CITY MANAGER REPORTED THE FIRE MARSHAL WILL BE BEGIN HIS
DUTIES IMMEDIATELY IN FOREST BENND.
MAYQR LOWE READ A LETTER HE HAS WRITTEN TO ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION AGENCY REGARDING LAND ADJACENT TO THE BRIO SITE,
STATING DESIRE TO HELP ELIMINATE THE POLLUTION PROBLEMS OF THIS
AREA, URGING EPA TO CALL A MEETING OF THE VARIOUS RESPONSIBLE
PARTIES INVOLV ED IN CREATING THIS PROBLEM.
