MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL THAT
WAS HELD ON JANUARY 7, 1985 AT CITY HALL AT 7 : 00 PE WITH THE
POLLOUIAG PRESENT CONSTITUTIUG A QUORUM:

ABSENT FROM THE MEETING WAS COUNCILMAN BOB WICKLANDER.
MAYOR LOWE REPORTED THE JANUARY 3 CLEAR CREEK "SAFETY VALVE"
PROJECT MEETING HELD AT GOLFCREST WAS SUCCESSFUL. MANY ELECTED
OFFICIALS, CIVIC CLUBS AND CITIZENS WERE REPRESENTED TO HEAR THE
PRESENTATION FROM BERNARD JOHNSON. COUNCILMAN JORDAN REPORTED
THAT BERNARD JOHNSON REPRESENTATIVES STATED THAT IF THIS PROJECT
WAS COMPLETED, THE FLOOD WATERS WOULD DROP 7 FT. AT THE CLEAR
CREEK BRIDGE. MAYOR LOWE REPORTED THAT JUDGE HOLBROOK THOUGHT A
STEERING COMMITTEE TO WORK WITH THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS WOULD BE
BENEFICIAL AT THIS TIME, MAYOR LOWE STATED THAT TOM BASS SAID HE
WOULD SERVE ON THIS COMMITTEE. MAYOR LOWE REPORTED HE HAD SPOKE
TO OMER POORMAN OF THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION AND HE AGREED TO
INCLUDE CASTLEWOOD ON FM 518 TO WHISPERING PINES IN THE WIDENING
PROJECT TO 4 LANES.
MAYOR LOWE CALLED A JOINT PUDLIC HEARING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY
COUNCIL TO ORDER AND CHAIRMAN RALPH MILLER CALLED THE PLANNING
AND ZONING COMMISSION TO ORDER TO OBTAIN PUBLIC INPUT ON TWO
PROPOSALS.
THE FIRST PROPOSAL WAS FOR A PROPOSED ORDINANCE PROVIDING THAT
READER PANELS MAY BE ERECTED UPON PERMANENT ENTRANCE SIGNS IN
RESIDENTIAL ZONES.
