Don Thomas , Mary Queen Catholic Church � APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Minutes of a Regular Meeting of March 21 , � approved as corrected, � GARY TALIAFERRO ON ALCOHOLIC AWARENESS - Mr. Taliaferro told what has been done recently in rthe Junior and Senior High Schools to educate young people of the community on the dangers of driv- ing and drinking. He quoted statistics indicating that the majority of accidents on our highways today are related to drunk drivers , and he urged the Council and citizens present to join ' in the effort to avoid this in Friendswood. I, Mayor Lowe then read a Proclamation setting aside April as � Alcoholic Awareness Month. I � � ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF COUNCIL THIS YEAR - Mayor Lowe read a list of pro� ects the council has undertaken in the past year and what progress has been made on these projects . (List attached) CANVASSING OF ELECTION - Mayor Lowe read, and Couneil adopted a resolution setting out results of the April 2 City Council election wherein Bob Wicklander , Paul Schrader, and Bruce Branham were elected rto Positions 2 , 4 , and 6 respectively. A copy of the Order and Resolution are attached hereto and made a part hereof. Mayor Lowe presented outgoing councilmen Loren Wood and Todd Stewart with plaques of appreciation for their service , rtheir name plates , and their portraits . OATH OF OFFICE - County Cammissioner Paul Hopkins administered ���� -�� the Oath to Couneilman Wicklander; Judge Marilyn Lunney gave the Oath to Schrader and Branham. Outgoing Counci_lmen , new Councilmen , and unsuccessful candidates for office where -then allowed to speak. They a11 voiced pleasure with serving for the good of the community , and candidates gave recognition to those people who worked in their campaign . I A BREAK WAS DECLARED AND INVITATION ISSUED TO PARTICIPATE IN .�, REFRESHMENTS PREPARED BY COUNCILMEN NEWMAN AND JORDAN. When the mee-ting reconvened with the new couneilmen seated, the following business was transacted; OPENING BIDS ON REPAIRS 'I'0 PIRE STATION #1 - The following bids were opened and read by Mayour Lowe : Blake Company $347900 �c�- rS'..-; New Life Construction Co. 54 ,127 John Watson Construction Co, 63 ,297 - . a �`� MOTION: (Wicklander) To refer the bids to the City Manager for review and recommendation to Council. CULVER AS SUB-CONTRACTOR FOR CAMPBELL �r� MO.TION: (Wicklander) To approve Culver as a sub-contractor � for Campbell , the prime contraetor for the Sunset Bridge project , i l Second: Newman Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED S�I- `�3 DELINQUENT TAX COLLECTION CONTRACT &� /C� 3 MOTION : (Jordan) To approve the contract with Dexter D. � Joyner, Attorney at Law, for collection of the City' s delinquent taxes . Second: Newman � Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED REQUEST TO OPERATE BUS SERVICE BETWEEN FRIENDSWOOD AND HOUSTON Mr. Morgan explained the request but no action was ta]<en . ORDINANCES #T-383 - FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION REGULATIONS - Final Readin �/$3 MOTION: (Wicklander) To adopt Ord . #T-383 on third reading and direct that copies be sent to FEMA offices in Denton and Washington , D. C. Second : Newman Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED I'� T-483 - REZONING QN FM 2351 FRQM R-1 to C-3 - Second Reading Y After some discussion regarding this ordinance , it was decided to table second reading until the next regular meeting, and to place it on the next workshop agenda and i.nvite a member of P&ZC to discuss the rezoning.
