HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes 1981-01-12 Special � ���. -�iGLY.�/Q�FJ Cr��i/L�=CY�L�."-c!' l 10Y MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL January 12 , 1981 The Friendswood City Council met in a Special Meeting at the City Hall at 8 : 30 p.m. on Monday, January 12 , 1981 , with the Ifollowing members present : i Mayor Dale Whittenburg City Secretary Bobbie Henry „ Councilmen : Mary Brown Acting City Manager Melvin Paul Schrader Meineke , Paul Maaz ' Loren Wood ' Ea� Zeitler (who left at 8 p ,m. to attend a meeting with the Fire Dept . ) With a quorum present , and with Councilwoman Blacic absent , the � following business was transacted: � ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE MAYpg I �'� 1• Proclamation setting January 12-17 "Speech Week in Friendswood" 2 . Councilman Wood announced that March 2 has been set as , "Student Government Day" and he is working with the ssheo� ' e�-�1�}s-p�eg�ar�.. High School and City Manager on the program. 3 . The Mayor reminded Council of a public hearing to be held jointly with the Planning Commission on January 15 at 8 : 00 p.m. to reconsider rezoning of two parcels of land. APPOINTMENT OF CO-CHAIRMEN FOR FIRE TRUCK FUND COMMITTEE I � Mayor Whittenburg appointed Annette Mullins as representative ! from the Chamber of Commerce and Richard Stapp from the Fire t?' � � Department to head this commitrtee . Mrs . Mullins rthen presented the Mayor with a check for $750 as the Friendswood Bank' s donation to the fire truck fund. CLOSED EXECUTIVE SESSION - No action resulted from this session. WORK SESSION WITH CLEAR CREEK DRAINAGE DISTRICT - Dale Anna and John Rooney were present representing the Drainage District. The Mayor reviewed Representative Lloyd Criss ' statements to Council recently regarding legislation he is preparing to present during the 1981 session, and asking for support from the local entities . The CCDD representatives brought Council up to date on break-down of plans for the National Guard to work on some of the cuts which are needed on Clear Creek, and hold-up of work on the other side of the creek by Harris County. The Mayor will contact ' Ho. Contractors Assn. in an effort to resolve opposition to the-<%� The work on the 1776 Park cut is going forward with the Drainage District having spent only $2 , 000 . Arden Hill is hauling the excess dirt away at no cost to the District. Another drainage question regarding Brazoria County Drainage Dist- rieh application to enlarge culverts on Chigger Creek has been � set for a hearing before the Brazos River Authority for Tuesday �j night at 7 p.m. Friendswood has taken a stand against this move since it will evidently have an adverse affect on residents in Sunmeadow. and Winds.ang. WARRANT APPROVAL - After a report on cities paying gasoline tax , l. e. exemption only for that amount used off-highway and the time consumed in keeping such records , the Council unanimously approved the payment of General Fund Check #5303 to Wartex Oil for $4 ,533 . 49 .
